UPDATE: What kind of season do you think Kenyan Drake will have?

He led the team in rushing yardage, rushing TDs, and YPC (min. 80 carries) last season.

2014: 172 rushes for 990 yards (5.76 YPC) and 11 TDs

Big guy, 6'3" 242lbs. Deadly in space. Hard worker, was 10 yards shy of a 1000 and I'm sure he knows it. The beast is about to be unleashed.

I can see something like 250 carries for 1550 yards (6.2 YPC) and 17 TDs

We're gonna need him to have a big year.

I think he'll break the 1000 yard mark, but its hard to say what kind of year he'll have because we don't know what kind of offense will be out there this year. If more of a ground-and-pound offense than balanced, I'll say 1300 rushing yards, 15 rushing TD's, and only around 200 receiving TD's with probably 1 or 2 receiving TD's. If the QB situation gets resolved and he's a better game manager than we expect, then I'll say he hits 1100 yards rushing, 12 rushing TD's, and around 250-300 receiving.

1,250 yards and 15 TDs. I still don't think he is physical enough between the tackles to grind out a 1,500+ yard season. Hope he proves me wrong.

Maybe I'm too critical but I still have my doubts about Henry as a complete back and I think we are going to really miss Yeldon.

I hope Henry has worked on his game and will prove me wrong, but so far I still view him as a beast when the play is blocked well but unable to create and help the oline out when the play is not blocked well like an Ingram, Lacy, and Yeldon could do.

Henry: 204 attempts - 1360 yds - 6.5 ypc - 17 TD - 94.4 ypg

Drake: 175 attempts - 1131 yds - 6.3 ypc - 12 TD - 79.1 ypg

The weak area in his game was compounded by the OL last year. He doesn't have the quickest lateral movement, so when run plays got blown up, he was dead in the water. When he gets holes, he's a damn monster. I also think his lack of "flash" hurts the perception of how good he is. Yeldon can make a 5 yard run look like a top 10 play on ESPN. Henry often makes 8 yard runs look pedestrian with the way he kinda hops though the line then falls forward after a few steps.

I think he still bewilders everyone with his inability to break tackles. While at the same time shocking everyone with his open field speed.

May reach 1000 yards, but it will be against teams who can't beat him to the edge.

He does break tackles once he builds his speed up running down the field. But if he gets hit before he gets going full speed he's done. Or at least he was in the past.

Which is the case for most RBs.

I know exactly what you are saying. I was describing this early on in the season but often ignored. But it seems most have finally caught on and see it now. Even RBR wrote something up on it.

quote:

Last season the most effective way to deal with Henry was, surprisingly enough, to meet him right at the line of scrimmage, as the junior’s top-heavy build and somewhat suspect footwork lead to issues running in traffic. However, the word is Henry leveraged that work ethic this offseason to improve his feet and add lower body mass,[4] which should help tremendously in his new role as the feature back. All signs point toward a big season for the new #2 in what may be his last year at the Capstone.

Is that not the most effective way to deal any RB?

I'd say the thing with Henry was just that out of all the star backs we've had under Saban (Ingram, T-Rich, Lacy, Yeldon) he goes down on inside runs the easiest despite being the biggest. Though I'm sure he's been working to correct that.

In space no one brings him down though.

I've argued this point plenty times before, but people act like his size works in his favor, when it actually works against him, and then people pass it off as not being physical enough.

I'm not blind or obtuse, I am just saying that most RBs don't get very far when met at the line of scrimmage. That's just a fact.

If he gets big holes to run through, he'll be a monster. If he doesn't, he'll be well below what we were used to with Ingram, Richardson, Lacy, and Yeldon.

Long legs just aren't made for zig-zagging.
