It seems that almost every year that we lose the last game, we point to the same three things, DB play, kicker, and QB.

I am not sure what will change with our DB play. Perhaps more experience for some of our DBs will help them put it together. Our DB play hasn't been elite in awhile.

With kicker, this may be an area where we regress next year. We lost a commitment from a scholarship kicker, and the PWO that we are rumored to have went 20-32.

QB might be the area we see the most improvement in. Perhaps Sarkisian will be the QB whisperer that we need for next year. I found an interesting stat that said that Hurts' worst completion when winning by 1-14. I wonder if our conservative approach we take on when we have a lead causes Hurts to doubt himself a little more.

The DB play being bad is overblown. In today's game no one stops passing attacks every game. On a lot of Clemson's positive plays this year the coverage was there, but their receiver made a play.

Can anyone name a team they think has a better secondary than us?

Not now with their departures, but Florida's was excellent.

Better shooting from beyond the arc, better FTs, fewer turnovers.

The last two teams we played have better secondaries than us.

Next question

I would like this. Nice and clean. I'm sure the change fearing rigid types won't be on board though.

Those types have always been Alabama's main problem.

It's why we would hire Bear plants instead of the best available coach (Thanks Mal!). It's why people wanted to hold on to running outdated run heavy formations when times is forcing us to be more open.

Meh

I would like to see us with better focus, and awareness on offense. Less penalties from personal confusion, lining up issues, formation confusion, false starts on the O Line, and delay of game on offense. It seemed like we always were in a rush to beat the play clock, and hardly anyone was set or ready. I know some of this falls on Jalens shoulders being a freshman..but this seem to be a problem every year with Kiffin..especially in big games. He like to see how the defense lined up then, then call the play. It cost us a few times and pissed Saban off.

Louisville, Pitt, Florida State, and Troy even threw effectively against Clemson. The Washington guys are great in coverage but are suspect at tackling.

I agree Florida's was very good, but that didn't stop Josh Dobbs from lighting them up in the second half. Austin Allen went for nearly 250 in under 30 attempts against them also.

Every other team they played, except maybe FSU, wasn't very good through the air.

OSU has been comparable the last couple years, but we gave up 30+ to Clemson as well, and Clemson didn't even try on offense in the 4th quarters, so I pretty much agree with you.

You would think Hurts obviously gets better as a passer as he has time to study the game a lot more. He is already an elite run threat so that will always make him dangerous.

Kicker who the hell knows. OSU had a great one all year til he missed 2 against Michigan and 2 against Clemson. It's one of those positions where you ride a high for a while, then blow a game and you may never return

DBs Bama has the talent returning for sure, so you should expect them to be a bit more settled into the scheme

The reason more team's weren't effective on us was Eddie and that moster D-line.

Marlon was a huge liability alk season. Harrison, Hootie and Tony Brown each struggle in coverage.

You forgot interior OL. Our guards seem to get their shite pushed in on a regular basis. It's puzzling with all the talent we recruit.

I don't recall them giving up too many big passing plays this year.

Clemson abused our OL badly. Kirven got worked and Cam had a couple of drive killing false starts.

Also, I am not sure why our DB's are so maligned on here. I don't think you can understate how much Eddie going out hurt us. Also, big receivers like Williams are just difficult to defend when the QB throws a dart to a spot and he just goes up and gets it.

I think our DBS played well this yr. So happy AA back next yr. I think Mack and Dylan are more cerebral than last yrs LB corps, and you need that especially in coverage. Not every LB can posess Rueben talent.

Minka will have his hands full unless Harrison and t brown play smarter instead of angrier

Edit, t brown and Harrison realized that tail end of the season and it showed that they were getting it

That is because of our monster D-line. Both struggle covering the slot. Harrison is better covering I might add.

I seriously cannot recall Hootie giving up more than like 1 or 2 significant passes this season.
