Also there’s the question of Daboll’s pedigree in offensive philosophy. He’s a pro style offense, something that Saban was comfortable with during most of his years of coaching himself. Daboll hasn’t run a hurry up, spread or read and react offense, things that Hurts did last year and most of his life.

While Hurts leadership, drive and playmaking ability is not in question, his drop back throwing is. In the second half of the game when he had to shine, Hurts went 3 for 9 for 14 yards. They punted six times in the second half and the offense for the most part wasn’t even mediocre. He finished the day with a quarterback rating of 25.2. So it’s not just an opinion that says he stunk as a passer, his stats proved it.

Having a QB that can actually complete a forward pass is a must no matter how good your defense is.

Hurts makes one first down throw and we probably win that game.

Maybe Kiffin is just way more adaptable than most folks, but he had never dealt with anything other than West Coast, pro-style, one back and he changed pretty easily.

The Patriots pretty quickly adapted their stuff when Brissett had to play. I doubt it will be much of an issue tweaking the offense to incorporate more running QB stuff.

I've given Hurts as much hell as anybody and more than most, but that's not right. The td pass to Howard was in the 3rd quarter and that pass alone covered about 70 yards.

Daboll was obviously brought in due to Mac Jones' outperforming Tua.

I can't believe Tua was such a bust oh well Mac will probably win the Heisman.

Just in case, who is the white walk on backup from an over the mountain school that I can latch onto whenever Mac also fails?

Maybe the plan isn't to adapt to a spread scheme. Maybe we are really and truly going to be a pro-style, power run team again. Maybe Hurts improves is drop back passing or maybe he just gets passed.

Well, when we come out and the offense is similar to last year. I just think this is going to be Nick's offense. This is something that people don't talk much about. Saban wanted to run a specific type of offense and he did it. He told Kiffen he wanted to go fast and that was not what Kiffen was used to, but he did it because coach said so. I'm not sure things will change that much.

I mean, the word "spread" doesn't even really mean anything anymore.

I guarantee we are going to move to more power running, but that doesn't necessarily mean 1-back 2 tight ends. And it doesn't mean our QB won't do dual threat running stuff. I hope it doesn't. That's an advantage we should 100% use.

I bet we run a lot of shotgun stuff with tight formations and misdirection. But I also bet we run the football 1 million different ways, but that we run it a lot.

If I'm not mistaken, NE's offense uses hurry-up often. I would be surprised if the hurry-up element was absent from this season's Alabama offense. And we will more than likely run all over the SEC again just like in 2016.

They do a lot of no huddle, but they don't do a ton of hurry up. They were 4th in TOP last year. The Falcons do the same thing. Basically they just don't let the defense sub because they don't huddle, and because they both have QBs who are coaches on the field they don't need to huddle up and use the field helmet mic to talk to the OC.

I'm sure we'll have no huddle in our packages. It would stupid not to. The key is using it to our advantage and not running ourselves out of steam.

Tell me about it - especially when on TV they use the terms "spread", "no huddle" and "hurry up" like they all mean the same thing.

I thought the best thing on TV this fall was Gary breaking down teams doing no huddle vs huddle and fast tempo vs slow tempo. Everybody else just uses the same stupid arse buzz words over and over.
