Are you talking about the game vs Creighton? That was Releford and he was definitely hacked. Officials absolutely fricked us because they refused to call shite on Creighton the entire game. Not that it would have mattered, because we would have got destroyed by North Carolina in the next round, who had Tyler Zeller, Harrison Barnes, Kendell MArshall, and John Henson.

Seriously hope Avery can turn this around and give us some hope.

You're right it was Releford. Regardless it was a terrible look to get down 1

Collin Sexton (5-star, #7 Nationally)

Watched some games/highlights and he's going to be a STAR. He has IT and is what the kids these days would call a savage.

I can't wait until he's in Crimson and white. I know some have him listed as a PG but he's such a pure scorer that he could potentially be a SG?

The reason I've always listed him as a PG is because I think he should have the ball in hands every possession. He can play off the ball, but Avery should have him dictate the offense

That Wimp team that had Sprewell, Horry, Cheatum, Benoit, Askins, I think 1990? Gary Waits at point. If I remember he got a nasty knee or leg injury, but man was he pure from 3.

Good times.

The 03 team could have been so incredibly good if everyone had stayed and not left early for the NBA. No doubt in my mind they would have won a title, even with Gottfired coaching.

I disagree, Gotfired did less with more. after TR Dunn left, Bama defense got progressively worse. 2003 forced Bama to ditch the ucla high post and start resembling an acc team. I give credit to that assistant coach from Pepperdine. 2005-06 was another missed opportunity. We barely lose to UCLA in Los Angeles and they go all the way to the NC. Ron Steele was one hell of a player.

Don't forget Gerald Wallace a year or two back, and that we whiffed on Mario Austin which was controversial. Funny thing is we got Erwin Dudley as a fallback when a center left the state for Kentucky. Huge bust but he died early.

I heard Gottfried didn't report MSU for the Austin recruitment because Mario's family was so poor he felt sorry for them and didn't want to mess up anything they might have been getting from MSU.

Supposedly Austin's family at the time lived in a wooden shack of a house with holes in the floor, etc.

Anyone who knows much about Greene, Hale, Marengo, Sumter or Wilcox counties knows that probably isn't an exaggeration.

This is honestly one of the cooler stories I've heard. Lost in the "cheating" in recruiting controversy is that some of these kids are able to get a degree + provide for their family at the age of 18

I'm definitely not in the "scholarships are all these kids need" camp, but lost in the counter-argument to that sometimes is that a degree from a big state school is literally a family generational changing thing for a lot of these kids.

Sometimes people take even the "worst" job that a college graduate can get for granted, but a lot of these kids who end up selling cars, doing marketing, middle management, etc post-college are not only doing more for themselves than they would have probably done without basketball (based on their upbringing and family histories), but their kids are given a totally different outlook and monetary status.

Also - Austin must have been pretty damn poor for Gottfried to miss out on an opportunity to stick Stansbury with the knife. Those dudes despised eachother.
