I think it's a sign that that 10th assistant spot is on hold until 2018.

Charlie Weis Jr was the TE coach, but he took a job with the Falcons.

Breaking: Per source, Alabama GA Clint Trickett will join the FAU staff as tight ends coach. (LINK ) 3:11 PM · Feb 17, 2017

Perhaps a sign that Dan Werner is coming aboard. Or maybe a result of Charlie Wiess, Jr. joining Sark's staff instead of Lane's staff. Or maybe all three moves are related.

I think there's still a decent chance it won't be delayed.

Pushback against delaying 10th college football assistant
quote:

The head of the NCAA's football oversight committee and the leader of the American Football Coaches Association are against delaying until the end of next season the expansion of FBS coaching staffs to 10 members. Bowlsby, chairman of the oversight committee, and Todd Berry, executive director of the AFCA, acknowledged hiring when staffs are typically set could inconvenience some schools. Still, they say it is not worth waiting... (Read more)

A GA and an analyst aren't the same thing.

Who thinks they are? Not me.

I can see why Trickett would rather be coaching on the field than in an analyst position.

Then how would Werner and Trickett going/coming be related?

I thought he was an analyst. Either way, as a QB/offensive Coach Werner is light years ahead of Trickett.

Again. One was a GA for three weeks. Another is rumored to join the staff as an analyst. But it's all a moot point. No tenth assistant is being added until at least 2018 now.

Clearly we are aren't on the same page here. I'm not arguing who has more experience.

Pretty sure. And no one is taking the off chance to come in as a potential tenth assistant, while the NCAA sorts it out.

But I'm sure some quality coaches will be added to analyst positions looking to bolster a resume or resurrect a career. And possibly be in line for a full time spot in 2018.
