Trent Dilfer wouldn’t be surprised to see Tagovailoa start at Alabama in 2017

quote:

“The freshman that’s coming in there Tua Tagovailoa is an Aaron Rodgers type prospect.” Dilfer said.

The statement was in response to a question about the Crimson Tide’s true freshman starting quarterback Jalen Hurts. Dilfer went on to express that he didin’t believe Hurts is a natural passer.

“There’s a very real chance that Tua will be the starting quarterback for some point next year at Alabama, and I know that’s a mind-blower to a lot of people.” Dilfer continued.

“What Tua will look like in practice next to Jalen hurts, and by the way Tua has the same type of physicality. He’s not as fast as Jalen but he’s a physical runner. He is a unique, when I say unique prospect a unique prospect. He throws the ball with the combination of the quickness and compact delivery, and his accuracy and his arm strength, his ability to change speeds, his eyes, his feet. I mean this kid is special with a capital “s”.

I just want the best player and the guy with the most ceiling whether it's a freshman or a year starter...when I use to play simulation games if I had a Frosh come in with 86 average and a previous starter at 89-90 I would go with the freshman.

i got lambasted about 5 games ago when I said we would lose a game with this O if we could not sustain drives and a good team with a good O was able to take advantage of our weakness. NS and LK were able to hide our QB's weakness for most of the year and Clemson exposed it. With that being said, I think Jalen will be a much better passer with off season work. He will need to be comfortable in the pocket and not look to improvise too early.

LSU also was able to expose our QB's weakness too.

I guess I'll call it now and say I expect him to start in '17.

Well there is a good chance he gets our HC fired if he starts next year. I'd say that is program changing

The fact that Dilfer is an idiot isn't exactly news to anyone.

I just hope when the best guy wins the job it happens before the season, or at least the SEC schedule. And that the one who loses the battle and becomes backup doesn't turn tail and transfer.

I am glad we have these 3 QBS. They are going to push one another and it only benefits the team.

Hope nick realizes in college football defense does not win championships anymore. It's an arms race and we need to figure that out.

I just want a QB that can threaten a defense with accurate passing. It feels like we have never had an elite passing QB.

Seriously? We ran a power spread offense with a dual threat QB, and our defense lost a lot of weight to keep up with HUNH teams.

I think Saban knows where the game is now and where it's going.

Can't wait for spring, with both of these guys getting after it. It will make both of them better.
