suspension reduced to 4 games.

quote:

Alabama cornerback Tony Brown will see his NCAA suspension reduced.

The Crimson Tide defensive back was facing a six-game suspension for the upcoming 2016-17 college football season, but according to AL.com’s Matt Zenitz, Brown is expected to only miss four games this fall. BamaOnLine confirmed this report.

Brown practiced with the football team this spring and participated in its 7-on-7 sessions this summer. The impending suspension is a result of something that occurred before Alabama’s Cotton Bowl semifinal against Michigan State.

The former five-star recruit registered 16 total tackles, one tackle for loss, two pass breakups and one forced fumble in 13 games a season ago as a reserve on the Crimson Tide’s 2015-16 national title-winning defense.

Alabama will open the season against USC on Sept. 3 in Arlington, Texas. Its next three games will be against Western Kentucky in Tuscaloosa, at Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss., and against Kent State in Tuscaloosa

Good news, we need to get him up to speed by the UT game. I think he has the potential to play a ton in nickel and dime.

so any clue why the suspension. 4 games is not just a slap on the wrist.

Pretty much confirmed as a failed drug test of some type.

then why did the NCAA permit him to run track. That part was odd, unless he was allowed to run it while they were doing the appeal?

He didn't participate in nearly half of track season. Likely served a suspension there too.

He sat out part (possibly half) of the track season as well according to a BOL report from a few weeks ago.

He did. He just didn't participate the first part. My statement was worded confusingly.

I wonder if Bama argued that since they sat him for the simi final and the championship game, that the NCAA should count those 2 as part of the 6 and that's why he only has to sit 4 this year.

Agree with ApeDeuce that is a good thought.

I just would have argued that "Tony Brown" is just such a generic name it could have been numerous other people.

Eta: I met two Tony's in the past month and work with two Browns. One of them would likely fail a drug test.

I hope he can get his life in order. I think he as much God given ability as any of our DBs. He has a burst that other guys just don't have. I think he really is a first round talent. Maybe a strong senior year next year can push him into a round three type draft grade. I am rooting for him.

Hopefully enough time for him to get his head out of his arse.
