Just for fun, I'm going to bookmark this page.

I'm usually pretty realistic when it comes to recruits, but Sexton is an exception and I would be a little surprised if he didn't look like a one-and-done candidate his freshman year. A lot of the highly-touted freshman that struggle tend to have a confidence issue, and I've never seen a Bama recruit with more confidence. His consistent dominance against high-level AAU/HS teams combined with his confidence and athleticism makes him a prime one and done candidate IMO. No kid is a guaranteed one and done, but I feel he's as close as just about anyone in that class.

If you change it to Sexton is as close as a sure bet to being a good college player as any 2017 kid, I think that's fair.
One and done? Not really close. If you are a SF/PF/C who can tie his shoes, ranked top 15 and going to Duke/UK you are a near lock to being a one and done.Even if they suck, they are straight upside talent projections of tall/big post guys.

I'm just saying that people completely take for granted how difficult it is to be a quality 1andDone guy. Especially for a PG/SG, moreso for a 6'2 PG.

Look at Melo Trimble's production and he isn't even projected RD1 as a 6'3 PG.

Not sure why you're bringing up Trimble (although I think he will steadily climb up draft boards). Sure he's 6'3", but everyone knows NBA likes length more than just height, and he has a very pedestrian 6'2" wingspan and he's not really athletic at all. Meanwhile Sexton is 6'2" (might get taller), he has a very impressive 6'7" wingspan and he's very quick and athletic. Throw in the fact that Trimble is a Junior and Sexton would be a freshman and that comparison doesn't really make any sense. I know production isn't the only thing that affects draft stock, but neither is height. Sexton has a lot of upside with his athleticism and length.

Can't remember what site did it, but something like 50 college coaches were surveyed on this class and Sexton ran away with best offensive player, and received a few votes for best defensive player as well. An elite two-way PG with athletic upside makes you a prime one-and-done target.

Giving an example of how a FR PG who had great production (FR YR 16ppg, 3apg, 4rpg 40+% 3PT) didn't get a good draft grade

quote:

While Sexton is 6'2", he has a very impressive 6'7"

So better example would be Tyler Ennis (5* 6'3 6'7.5 Wing) from Syracuse. Guy had elite PG production (13ppg 6apg 5rpg) and was Wooden POY semifinalist and only made it to pick 18.

Ennis was unathletic and was still near lottery. My original argument was that Sexton would leave early, even if he didn't end up a lottery pick. You're really trying too hard here.

I didn't realize this was your point, fair enough that we disagree here. Unlike some other spots, I just think PG has a compelling return to school argument.

I just figured out you're an Auburn fan. Maybe that's why you were talking down about Sexton

I watched UF-Duke last night too. We'd kill both of those teams as well. KeVaughn Allen won't score a point.

I wish I could be serious.

Even if KeVaugn Allen didn't score, we'd go at least 10 straight minutes without a bucket

I hate having a good defense, it always keeps our games close until we lose a heartbreaker in the end

Not talking down about Sexton, just 1andDone chances

I think Sexton is a monster and will be great for y'all. Really was a punch to the gut that y'all are recruiting at the same level as Pearl if not better.

Which again, is stupid. The guys at DX aren't wrong very often. He's been on an absurd upward trejectory for a while now, espcially considering he was the MVP of the FIBA U17 tourney and absolutely obliterated the competition at EYBL. Already seeing scouts talking about how he is shooting the 3 better this season, which is arguably his biggest weakness.

Hell he dropped an extremely effecient 39 on the #1 PG in the class like a week ago.

Yes better is the word you are looking for

Some of us are already setting this guy up to fail. If I were you, I'd expect to see a talented, small guard who often plays a lot like a freshman in his first season. And, be pleasantly surprised if he performs above that level. All this one and done talk is premature.

No one is setting him up to fail. Right now he is 7th on 24/7, so I decided to look that the last 3 guys to finish there:

Dennis Smith: Currently 2nd on DX's big board
Ivan Rabb: 11th on DX
Tyus Jones: National champ + 1&done first rounder (KAT was 5th in this class )

I mean, you can make great arguments for either class. Both teams are recruiting at an extremely high level

*Notes from Avery Johnson today*

-He said Nick King will miss the Oregon game and will be out 1-2 weeks bc he all of a sudden lost 10 pounds and the team is worried about him. He hasn't been diagnosed with anything yet.

-Avery said he wants to see what Donta Hall brings to the starting lineup

-He also said the players held a players only meeting bc they weren't happy at all about how they finished the last game.

-Last interesting thing he said was they had a full scrimmage yesterday bc some players had been struggling with stamina in games, and at the end of the scrimmage Bola had 16 points and 11 rebounds.

It'll be interesting to see how all of this plays out.

Hope he is alright. That's scary when a top level athlete suddenly has that type of weight fluctuation for unknown reasons

You think he picks up King's minutes? Not earth shattering amount but still
