So did we frick up not hiring Mike White ?

I don't get what some of you expect/think. Don't get me wrong I thought there was a decent chance we'd be better, but let's look at the facts. We lost our only good offensive player from last year's roster (this year just proves how amazing he really was last year). Our 2nd best scoring option is having one of the worst senior season regressions of all time. Word was that Nick King was supposedly the best player in practice last year, but struggled the first few games and has yet to get healthy enough to play. Everybody (including myself) was hoping/expecting Ingram and Davis to be better than they are. Our offense relies on a true freshman that (while highly-touted) wasn't known as a big-time scorer and wasn't relied on for offense as heavily on his HS team as he is on our team (think about that). If you looked at these facts before the season, you'd wonder how the hell we're even in the hunt for an NIT bid.

Keep in mind that we have a top 5 class coming in to help these role players (Key excluded), including the best scorer in the entire 2017 class and another borderline 4/5-Star scorer. Adding a very highly-touted athletic big and 3 other quality freshmen. Meanwhile we lose just Hale (Reese couldn't be worse), Taylor (Giddens will be better) and Bola (I'll honestly miss him, but most of you hate him)...

Mike White is having a good season, but he took over a formerly perennial top 25 team in UF that Donovan gifted him.

Avery was and is the best hire this program could make.

There's no point in bashing Avery or praising Mike White at this point. Mike inherited some talented players while Avery didn't. No way to tell if Avery or Mike is truly a good or bad coach. I think they're both good and we couldn't have gone wrong with either. But I do think we got the best hire. Mike White wouldn't have been able to land a top 10 class at Bama bc he had nothing to sell. Avery can tell players I played and coached in the NBA, come here and I'll get u to the league.

Bola might actually be a helluva role player next year with some talent around him where he wouldn't be expected to do much other than crash the boards and be some muscle in the paint.

Glad some of you guys starting to realize Bola doesn't suck. He can't score but his rebounding is great.

Like I understand we don't have scorers but what I don't get is why do we not push it more. If I was Ingram CAJ would have to take me out for pushing it to much. I mean In grams one strength is that he is a big guard that finishes well most times and he knows how to get to the rim. I really hate when we have numbers or the numbers are even and he moves slow or just stops a and calls a play as if our half court offense is great.

I think Key is more frustrated than anything. You have to understand that Keys Oak Hill team could probably beat our team right now or at least put up a good fight. He is probably use to playing with guys that know how to play basketball. Like when to cut or spacing on the floor or maybe even layups. I think there are three guys on the team that actually know how to play fundamentally sound basketball and that's Key, Collins, and Norris. Yes Norris lol...don't confuse his lack of ability with basketball play. I wonder how long Ingram has played pg...I doubt he grew up playing it.

We have no true team leader like we had last year. Scoring just over 50 against the worst team in the league is horrible. Year two of the AJ run should show some signs of Improvement and so far I have not see it. That is not to say I am anti AJ but year 3 with a bunch of high value freshmen will have its own set of problems. Year 4 is where we may see the fruits of his labor.

It's sad that we are two losses to frickin Auburn from being 10-3 in conference and probably closing in on a tournament slot.

I think Avery knows we struggle to score, so he thinks our best chance to win is to limit the number of possessions to as few as possible.

The last 5 years of Alabama basketball

2013
Anthony Grant
23-13 (12-6)
KenPom : 63rd
RPI : 64th

2014
Anthony Grant
13-19 (7-11)
KenPom : 86th
RPI : 128th

2015
Anthony Grant
19-15 (8-10)
KenPom : 55th
RPI : 80th

2016
Avery Johnson
18-15 (8-10)
KenPom : 96th
RPI : 79th

2017
Avery Johnson
15-10 (8-5)
KenPom : 61st
RPI : 69th

Whispers in a very loud whisper voice...........this team is better than last years. Significantly better. And that is after losing our best and only true offensive threat.

We are 70-63 in the SEC since Grant took over in 2010.

This league sucks.

I've been trying to make that point for 2 months. He has an elite skill. Yea, he contributes next to nothing on offense, but neither do our other 2 big men. However, he is a monster on the glass.

Yes, I'm not disappointed in AJ at all, at this point. I thought they'd sneak into the tournament this year, but I thought some of the transfer players would be better players than they are. They just lack offensive talent. I've never seen so many missed layups in my life. Even still, they've at least been in the conversation and have a decent record within the SEC. If you told me before the season that we'd get basically nothing from King, Hale, Collins, Austin, or Bola (offensively), then I probably wouldn't have thought we'd make a push for the tournament.

I think next year we'll see significant improvement. They'll still have a good nucleus of role players. A couple of the younger guys should improve on offense by gaining confidence. And, the best recruiting class in school history comes in.

??? limit whose possessions...ours or the opponents?
If you're talking total possessions, I'd be more inclined to want to drive the ball to the rim when the opportunity was there (to keep from having to take outside shots), but back it out when not. I've always found that a poor outside shooting team really craps their nest when they try to run clock and look for a late shot. Hell, they're bad enough without putting the pressure of the clock on them.

Total possessions. Our guys miss more often than not at the basket regardless of what the opponent's defense does. When you miss at the basket it's easier for the other team to get out and run than if you miss a jump shot.

Anyone know how easy it is to scalp SEC tournament tickets? Are any student tickets offered for cheap? Friends and I are considering Nashville over the gulf to start spring break this year. We'd only want to see Bama's games

It will be tough with the games in Nashville. That's too close to BBN country. They would sell the place out on their own. If you're lucky and Bama isn't in the same session as the UK game, it will help with ticket prices. But the experienced scalpers know that the sessions with UK in them, the prices are sky high.
Me and some friends did the SEC tourney every year for about 12 years where we scalped tickets for every session. Was a blast. Atlanta was the easiest to do just because of the number of tickets.
