He has been getting the first team Mike snaps next to Reggie at Will. He's clearly the best choice from an athletic standpoint in that 3rd down role, I could see Reuben playing on 1st and 2nd down, or at least against teams like Wisconsin, Georgia, and LSU. But I don't like Reuben or Reggie in the 3rd down role.

Hamilton is listed at 6'0" 229lbs, not a big guy, little compact. Not sure he has the length or size you'd like against TEs, but athletically he's our best choice at ILB in space, IMO. At least as the guy in the Nickel/Dime vs the HUNH teams, that would work really well for him.

Zach Thomas was 5'11" 240. SDH has similar smarts and quickness. he needs to get a bit stronger and master the system and he could be a good defensive playmaker for us. not expecting an all-conference performance this year though.

I thought he was bigger than 229.

Yeah, I don't think his size is really a problem. He seems to be a guy who gets it, EE last year and it sounds like he has always had his nose in the playbook. His athletic ability and football IQ will be big pluses. I mentioned it in the OP, but the only downside to his size with the way TEs are used more and more nowadays is that he may have some trouble covering the 6'5" 250+ guys, but that said he'll have the athletic ability to stay with them so he'll always have a chance.

I'm excited to see what roles he plays and well he plays them.

If only we could put SDH's brain in Reuben's body...

SDH's body is fine. He is a strong, very physical player.

And Reuben is a little bigger; more violent. If he had SDH's smarts he'd be the perfect LB

I can't get that image out of my mind of SDH being trucked by the OSU RB 3 months ago.

I'm pretty sure he got blocked on that run. The safety got trucked IIRC

You are correct. He got down-blocked by the WR iirc.
