Is he continuing to refuse to pay collegiate license fees so the University gets a cut (like they do with a hat)? Or is he still hiding behind "freedom of the press?"

He is still "hiding" behind his constitutional right, yes.

I don't own one Moore painting. I suppose I was just confused as to why you were saying that he should stop painting, when it has zero effect on your life. Sorry if that rubbed you the wrong way.

Also, I'm not sure why anyone would be against the ruling in favor of Moore. Do you hate freedom and the Constitution?

And puppies and babies and the troops.

Tuscaloosa news or ESPN publishing photos covering a game is a far sight different. That's freedom of the press.

I don't have the "freedom" to sell hats with the Script A on them. Should I?

He puts his images on coffee mugs. Everyone else pays--why shouldn't he?

From what I've read, they revoked his right to sell the coffee mug. They originally revoked his right to sell the calendars, but then overturned that. Not sure if that included the coffee mugs too.

I knew he won. Doesn't mean I agree with it. He made good money peddling Alabama's image (and eventually Auburn's, Ole Miss's Kentucky's, etc). Seemed petty of him to want to skirt the licensing.

I have never looked at his paintings/mugs/calendars separately. Nor have I looked at them as anything other than "Alabama Merchandise."

I bought his prints before that all went down. But not after.

That's fine, but Alabama spent over a million dollars trying to prove to a judge that he owes them royalties, and they lost. I'm sorry, but I do not feel bad for Alabama on this.

If you want to paint memorable Alabama moments, you can do it without having to pay royalties, even if you are not Daniel Moore. Not sure why you are acting like this applies only to Moore.

I haven't bought any since these two:

He uses Alabama and knows our fans will give him tons of money.

Met the individual from our athletic department that led the charge. He is now with Oklahoma and is in charge of booster recruitment and fundraising. Before joining Bama he was with the Cowboys in charge of licensing and cheerleader marketing.

I agree with Alabama. Not the judge. The justice system isn't perfect and I don't always agree with it (OJ?).

Moore made an issue of it. I think it is positively rat fink of him to make the distinction. If you peddle it on a print, coffee mug, shirt, calendar--it's all the same.

And yes at this point I'd make it a point to find someone who supplied the "officially licensed product."

Why are people so willing to make a distinction between a 200 dollar print (with 20k copies produced) and, say, a Hover Helmet? I don't know what the court was thinking. Don't really care. Seems like they made the wrong decision to me.

I guess I just don't understand why anyone would care. No one is making people buy Moore's paintings. There is clearly a market for his work, so why wouldn't he try and make money?

He sold himself as mostly Alabama for the longest time. We were his bell cow. Then the university wants to make him pay because he's using the university, so he responds by doing Auburn prints.

I'm sure it sounds childish, but at that point I will enjoy his work but not buy it. Besides, it's overpriced and he has done too many in the past 10 years. They had more appeal when he wasn't trying to crank one out every time he saw a championship coming. Hell, he did four or five for 2009 season.
