ESPN: The time Henry thought of transferring from Alabama

Good article on DH that highlights something that probably happens a lot at Bama since we have so many highly-rated out of state players. They come in with such high expectations about what they're going to accomplish frosh year, get discouraged, and they're hundreds of miles away from their support systems back home usually for the first times in their lives. Tough situation for 18 year olds who aren't necessarily fully developed emotionally.

I think Saban has done a better job of getting the younger studs on the field since then. Henry and Kamara should have been slowly worked into the offense earlier in the season.

Naaaa the coaches must have had their reasons. They didnt take time to work Trent, Yeldon, or Ingram in from the very beginning. Probably why he had high hopes and expectations to contribute so highly early on.

Henry probably had never picked up a blitzing LB or DB in his HS career. He still may have played at a school without RB depth.

His blocking is brutal. He catches passes very well. I'd like to see him running interference for Drake a few times like a fullback.

exactly. The myth that Saban won't play freshmen is so stupid.

and Kamara? Dude was a headcase from the get-go.

Y'all dont remember Henry getting chewed out by AJ in the 2013 opener against Virginia Tech? He was a part of the plan, but when he wasn't carrying the ball, he was lost. He also lost some time due to that injury he had during the spring.

Kamara also had a minor injury during fall camp. I think he had his knee scoped or something. I am sure both guys were part of the big picture plan going into fall camp, but Kamara's shot was done when he got hurt, and the staff never really trusted Henry (In hindsight, I personally think he would have been a nice factor in that Iron Bowl loss, expecially with Yeldon clearly limited).

ETA: Also, that Iron Bowl was supposedly around the time when Saban told Nuss to GTFOH. Remember Kiffin came in as an offensive consultant during Bowl Prep and pretty much said at the time he thought Henry was the best offensive player on the team, (even though he clearly changed his mind a little bit on that ranking when he took over as OC and spent a little more time with that Amari guy).

Great story on Henry, glad he hung in there... thanks for sharing Sarc!

To be honest; I'm not sure about his vision or balance. Some of his runs won't work at all in the NFL, unfortunately.

Go to 1:24 of that video and tell me he doesn't have vision.

So far in his career, he has been inconsistent. His pass blocking skills have greatly improved. Hopefully, the rest of his game does and he is a breakout star this year.

At 1:24, he follows lead blockers and runs straight. No cuts/turns, etc. Great blocking. I'd argue that at 1:49 is a better example of his vision.

Henry has to have a running start (pistol formation), he is a straight line runner and hopes he can run through you. Just not a huge fan compared to other RBs that we have had. I would love to eat crow though.

Yeah, he is definitely a different style of runner from our previous feature backs. He and Drake are probably our most explosive backs, but Henry is definitely a straight line runner.

We can't really expect him to make guys miss in the hole, but he also doesn't need much of a crease to get it going. His acceleration through the hole is unreal, and I don't think I have ever seen him run down from behind once he gets a head of steam... #BEAST

He has deceptive speed (faster than you'd expect) with deceptive strength (weaker then you'd think)

He is a little stiff which affects his balance too. Look at the fluidity of Kenyan compared to Henry. Granted Henry has 30 pounds on Kenyan.
