The good thing about this year's offense is that we are balanced, but we're not balanced for the sake of being balanced. We do a better job of taking what the defense is giving us. That was my big complaint after the Sugar Bowl last year.

Now I still think we need to get better on O if want to win it all. We have to do a better job in the redzone if we want to win it all. Kiffin is a little too cute at times when we are inside the 10 (MF'in Jet Sweep! ), but I'm not going to complain too much about that. However, we can't leave points on the field and need to improve out ability to score TDs in the first quarter in order to set the tone for the game.

We can beat Michigan State without a problem if we can put up a TD or two early. Make their offense play catchup instead of trying to grind it out. If we play OU or Clemson, we might have problems if it takes us almost 2-3 quarters to score a touchdown. Our offense seems to have a ceiling of 2-3 TDs per game. Just a guess but I think that will have to improve if we want to beat OU or Clemson.

I like what we've been doing the past few games. Starting out spreading the field a bit and trying to hit short passes, jet sweeps, while mixing in Henry runs. Then going Henry heavy in the 2nd half. Get the defense moving side to side, covering the whole field to wear them out, then bring in the bull to run them over and wear them down more.

It only works if the defense can keep the other team off the scoreboard, which ours has been able to do.

I was the biggest Lane critic, but the way he is riding "that big back" (as Les called him) I don't think any of us can be mad that he's abandoning the run game. He gets a little cute at times and runs out of the shotgun too much for my taste. But, there is no doubt Lane is great at identifying defense's weaknesses in coverage or personnel packages. And he will definitely go for the kill shot.

I'm in the minority, but I actually like Coker. Kid has guts. Not the greatest QB to ever wear the crimson by any means. But, he never seems like he's overwhelmed by the moment and doesn't back down. There is something to be said for that.

As long as the Derrick Henry pain train keeps rolling along and our Defense plays the way they are, I am not concerned at all. It's going to be hard for anyone to beat us when that is happening.

I don't think you are in the minority at all. I think a large majority like Coker. Maybe there is a vocal minority. But there always is. Espeically for Offensive/Defensive coordinators. Someone is always complaining about something even if we win.

At the same time it's fair to point out the criticisms in his game and how it effects play calling.

But how can you not see him juke two lineman and bomb a 30 yard td and not like that? Or when he scrambles and trucks a defender?

I really like Coker. But it is fair to point out criticisms. Just like last year with Blake Sims.

Those jet sweeps serve a purpose though. To stretch out the defense. Make them hesitate for a fraction of a second and he goes by you on the sidelines for a big gain. Or you hesitate for a fraction of a second and there is less support up the middle and Henry gains a big run up the middle.

I really like our Matchup with Michigan State. We match up well. Playing Clemson or Ok is where it gets really interesting.

I love Coker. The guy competes HARD.

And honestly, he has made some super impressive plays with his legs and arms in the last two games. If Coker could somehow put together 2 complete games in the playoffs then no one will get close to beating us.

Sure, we have some things to improve on, but I love the identity of our offense right now, and you can tell that our players are "feeling" it.

Watching Henry is something else. The guy is an absolute machine. A self-less, humble machine, and you can tell that he welcomes getting the ball as much as he does.

Also, Ridley and Stewart have built up a swagger that is dangerous to opposing defenses any time they touch the ball.

Amen.

And, you know, we saw posts at the beginning of the year suggesting that Coker had not won over the locker room. Being named permanent captain puts that to rest once and for all.

Agree 100%. He has some WTF plays at times but I don't see him choking or cracking due to the pressure in the playoff. If he does, I think Kiffin will manage it better and lean on Henry. Last year, I think Blake got a little out of sorts against the Buckeyes and Lane doubled down on him hoping Sims would turn it around like he did against AU.

I'm not going to underestimate Sparty's ability to try to limit Henry. Our OL isn't invincible and MSU has a very good defense. I also don't think Coker can count on throwing wounded ducks into triple coverage and expect Stewart to make a touchdown everytime. Coker and the receivers will have to make some plays. Like I said though, if we can put up some points early and give our defense some breathing room, we should be fine.

Coker can't underthrow open guys deep like he did against Florida.

I get that, but I don't think they are near as effective inside the 15 or 10 against a great defense that doesn't have to cover the entire field.

One play I'd love to us see dial up more is a screen pass to Henry.

We have to stop running the WR screen when the defense out numbers us on that side of the field.

He does drive me crazy with his slow delivery on the bubble screens.

But, I was rewatching the LSU game and there was a 3rd down play he delivered that was impressive. We waited and waited for the crossing route to come clear. Right as he was getting blasted he delivered a strike on the money. I don't think any of our other Saban QBs make that play. The size to absorb punishment, the arm talent to sling it and fearlessness in the pocket is a pretty good combination.

Not sayin' he's a future pro, but that TD pass to Mullaney was an NFL throw...Mullaney was well covered and the window to throw that pass was virtually closed...don't know how he fit that one in there...

I also like how Coker and the WRs didn't back down from VH3...the long pass to Ridley and the TD pass to Stewart were completed against Hargreaves...and those weren't the only ones. We threw his way a lot...

I also would love to see more bootlegs from Coker. Get him rolling out of the pocket and then he can extend the play and either pass or run himself. He seems to do well on those types of plays. Extending the play with his legs and hitting the WR downfield.

Something I was just thinking about (and correct me if im wrong)...We haven't really used any trick plays this year.

Gotta think we have some creative play like New England did Sunday vs the Eagles. I was surprised they didn't wait to pull that one out in the playoffs. They also did it last year in the playoffs against the Ravens.

If I'm not mistaken Belicheck and Saban have coached together and have a close relationship and talk in the offseason about football.

But yeah just in case we need yards in a desperate situation. Another example being last year vs LSU in overtime.

I bet Lane has something written up. Hopefully we beat that arse and never have to use it though lol.

Meh, we won't play DBs as good as Florida in the playoff.

I thought the long throw to Ridley was fine, as Ridley had the opportunity to catch it. On a 50+ yard throw like that, its hard to complain about a throw like that.

The pass to Stewart was brilliant IMO. He had three guys around him, and Coker's chemistry with Stewart allowed Coker to realize that he enough of a step on the DBs to easily turn around and out-jump them for the touchdown. If he had have thrown it any longer, it would've probably gone out of the back of the endzone. That was a beautiful play.

Amen. My buddy and I were talking about that during the SECCG. What happened to our RB screen? That was almost as much of a staple as LSU's toss dive.

I'm pretty sure we were lined up for one Saturday, but had to take a timeout. We were definitely in a formation I have not seen all year, so maybe it wasn't a trick play, but a gimmick play.

Forget which drive it was though.

Ridley walks in if he threw it further or sooner. He underthrew it and was only caught because Ridley made a great play.

The pass to Stewart was a bed decision, but Stewart bailed him out.

To me, what made that pass a bad decision was that Coker could've tucked and run for 20 yards and a first down.

I'd rather him do that than throw into triple coverage.

I just want to say I LOVED the toss sweep to the Drake to open up the game. You know they weren't expecting that....I literally stood up fist pumped on that one.....glad to see Drake is back for the playoffs...he is looking good.
