Are we really going to switch back to a pro style offense in 2017?

If we do, will we use the 1-2 punch at RB as always or rotate 4, maybe even 5, running backs through out the games?

If we develop Hurts and get the mean streak back in the OL, could be a VERY good offense. I would like to see multiple ball carriers, and see Ridley get 1000 yards or better this year. And while Hurts needs to improve in areas of the passing game, I still wouldn't mind seeing him bust off some runs when nothing is there. He was very good at that in 2016 (with the exception of the fumbles).

I hope to see a defense that once again creates a lot of turnovers and continues to stuff the run. Pass defense I expect could be improved this year.

I have a gut feeling this team will be very dominant.

I doubt it.

Pro style or not, as long as we utilize the RBs we have (because this a very deep and talented group), develop Hurts, get the deep ball back, and get the OL back to running defensive fronts over.

I think Saban is committed to the modern offense.

The only problem with our offense last year was the OCs failure to commit to running downhill. Jalen, as a freshman was a more effective offensive weapon than GMac in 09. He's an absolute offensive star, and I'm tired of him getting blamed for so much.
I'd say almost every team in the SEC would like to have him as their QB in 2017.

The most critical need is to get the passing game going. That will help open up our running game, spread and wear down opponent defenses, and keep our defense off the field more.

Yeah, as much as I hate this new offense, Nick Saban seems to think it is our future so there is that. It would be a waste of Jalen's running skills to switch back anyway plus we all know he probably wouldn't thrive as a pure dropback passer.

I disagree. The problem was our weak passing game.

He needs to round into a true dual threat before those things would be true. Pretty good chance he will, but as it stands right now he is only viable as a runner.

or get the running game game going to open up the passing game

True. Jalen did a lot of damage on the ground when teams still respected him as a passer. If defenses know he will bust their arse deep when they crowd the line or spy him then this offense will probably set records. We don't need a 900 yd rushing performance from him but he will get his. I am pretty excited about a better Jalen Hurts.

Excited to see the offense in 2017. Improved Jalen plus a deep stable of RBs...lots of talent out there. Really wish we had OJ one more year.

I've been thinking about this, if the 2016 team had Jake Coker, do we absolutely demolish all comers (even Clemson, Ole Miss, LSU, and an even greater margin over A&M)?

Probably. Jake was a clutch playmaker.

Easily. Jake wasn't great but with the talent around him he didn't have to be. Jake would have beat Clemson and we would have probably beat Washington by 35+.

If Jalan doesn't learn the down field passing game he could be second team early.
The OC comes from the Tom Brady school of O. Quick passes, down field passes, a running game and a little hurry up when you make a big play. Our freshman is supposed to be Brady lite.
It's going to be fun either way.

In a brief interview today at UA's Pro Day, Saban was asked what philosophy and style of offense we can expect with Daboll as OC.

He said he felt like we had moved to running more spread/up-tempo than we should. He said we'd have a mix of prostyle and spread. He said the biggest need and focus will be to improve Jalen's passing game.

He also noted Daboll is "a very bright guy that can learn some of the things we've done here relative to the spread and do what our players can do here."

So basically all the things we sucked at last year.

Our running game can be insanely good next year.
