Finally actually checked how many yards Wisconsin's drive against the backups went for. 7 plays, 75 yards and a TD. It was so bad Saban put the starters back in on the next drive.

So yeah, those are pretty damn good numbers.

CORRECTION: Alabama's 1st team defense only gave up 10 points and 203 yards

Allow me to break it down further for everybody.

The first team defense only gave up 8 rushing yards to Wisconsin.

The first team defense only gave up 195 passing yards to Wisconsin.

Wisconsin had 40 rushing yards total.
On the drive against the backups, Wisconsin ran:
For 25 yards
For 3 yards
For 4 yards
For a total of 32 yards

40-32 = 8

Wisconsin had 228 yards passing total.
On the drive against the backups, Wisconsin passed:
For 12 yards
For 4 yards
For 14 yards
For 3 yards
For a total of 33 yards

228-33 = 195

195+8 = 203

I figured Saban put in the starters b/c Chryst was being a douche and calling timeouts.

Maybe. Saban didn't seem to pleased with the backups though based on his comments.

Yeah

So, before anyone says Joel Stave looked all that good against our defense.

Against the first team defense Joel Stave was:

22/35 (62.9%) for 195 yards (5.6 YPA) 1 TD and 1 INT
113.37 Pass Efficiency Rating

5.6 YPA is shitty.

I point all this out to hopefully calm some of the concerns. I've seen some people not too pleased with the secondary. They weren't the 2011 group, but I hope this helps assure you that the DBs did fine.

Yeah I basically mentioned that in another thread. The best part was that we adjusted at halftime and basically shut them down in the 2nd half.

We really saw the pass rush come to life once we took away those short, quick throws.

Right, right.

Hopefully we don't let other teams make a living off that. A team with better offensive athletes than Wisconsin could turn those short throws into big plays if it isn't contained quicker. First game though, if they could adjust at half time I think by the time a team like Ole Miss comes to town they can adjust.

I don't think they were completely satisfied with Foster on some of those short throws to the RBs/TEs/FBs, as SDH started popping up more often in coverage scenarios. Seemed more comfortable moving step for step in man, even with that iffy PI call.

Foster was much more effective moving toward the QB, he almost got Stave if Allen hadn't dropped him a split second before.

I thought I was seeing 20 out there more and more as the game went on. Good observation Mag.

Truth. I'm really glad Allen had the game he did. I hope he has a huge season, he's a great talent, as is most of the DL.

We got some good pressure, but I think we'll get even more against teams like say A&M. Obviously they'd throw it a lot more so of course more chances, but at times we had guys who weren't quite as good at it rushing the passer because they had a power look and went PA. So when we have more opportunities to get the rushers on vs the pass I think the pressure will really shine, and it did great against Wisky, IMO.

Foster needs to avoid the rub on those passes out of the backfield. He got sucked up on that shite way too much.

This. I was hoping we would throw it after the int. PC was trying the old "they only beat us by 10. We should have won "game.

Yep, when I saw that they kept their starters in and were calling timeouts I was hoping Saban would run our starting offense out there and ram another score in there just as a lesson. Not worth the risk of injury I guess but would have bee so sweet.

Yep, and if only Clements and Cupola were healthy we would've won.

Even as it was I read a player comment, "at least we didn't get blown out like vs OSU last year." or something similar.

They had 20 yds of offense in the 2nd half until midway in the 4th it was when the Bama's 2nd teamers went in they had a drive and scored.

Seriously, what was that about? What was he trying to prove?

Anyway, 8 rushing yards against a rushing team. Reminds me of 1992 or 2011 when the defensive front was almost impenetrable. Brings a tear to the eye.
