So they may not have the sacks or tackles for loss numbers of the last two years, but here are some stats that may be interesting for comparison.
Rush Defense (can't beat 2016)
2016- 63.93 yards/game, 2.01 yards/rush, 5 TDs
2017- 66.71 yards/game, 2.34 yards/rush, 2 TDs
2015- 75.73 yards/game, 2.43 yards/rush, 7 TDs
Pass Defense
2017- 187.6 yards/game (24th nationally), 5.6 yards/attempt (6th nationally)
2016- 197.9 yards/game (24th nationally), 5.9 yards/attempt (7th nationally)
2015- 200.6 yards/game (30th nationally), 6.1 yards/attempt (15th nationally)
Opponent 3rd down conversion %
2017- 27.08
2015- 28.63
2016- 30.67
Turnover Margin
2017- 1.57
2016- .67
2015- .67
Turnover margin is partially the product of the offense, but we are also intercepting more passes/game this year than we were last year. In total defense this year's team leads so far as well.
Halfway-ish through the year, thought this was interesting. With stiffer competition maybe this team drops off some, but also there are some pretty weak offensive teams coming up in Auburn, LSU, Mercer and MSU. We'll see.

Last two year's defenses had played better teams though. The SEC sucks. Arkansas looked laughably slow in person. Honestly, across CFB in general it looks like it's kind of a down year for top teams.

We're not doing that bad on sacks or TFL's and we're playing a lot more players this year.

We are tied for 17th in sacks, not too bad. Another big improvement is in passes defended. We are 4th so far this year at 6.57/game. We finished last year at 14th with 4.93/game. Secondary is really playing great
