Long story short, it's a developmental spring league getting off the ground

Stephen Garcia was obviously a 1st Rd pick, or "Franchise Pick" as they are calling it.

If the NFL makes a commitment to market it correctly, it will be a success. There will never be too much football in America. It is a year long sport now.

I wish it would, NFL needs a developmental league in the worst way. Seems they are going about it the right way, and it's standard football unlike the AFL or CFL. Of course, so was the All American Football league

I'm still trying to comprehend Ted Cottrell with the 3rd pick in the entire draft and the player they are suppose to build around, he picks a no name WR from Huntingdon College named Taylor Belsterling

Every other team at least picked a QB or a SEC player...

I know the Belsterlings, good people they are. Happy for Taylor. He tried really hard to make an NFL squad, but I am glad that he is getting an opportunity to play in this league.

Would be helpful to kill all the talk about paying college players.

Give the kids a choice. Go to college. Or go to developmental league

Absolute insanity to want players to skip college and go straight to a D league. Winning a ship when it's white guys vs white guys is incredibly lame and stupid. I want to see the best of the best going at it yo.

They won't be paying these 18 year olds millions of dollars to play in a development league.

Maybe 50-60k a year? I would assume.

What would you rather do? Play big time college ball with alumni love(who will pay top dollar for your signature)/coeds/college experience/great facilities and support/playing big time games in 100,000 seat stadiums/have a pretty good lifestyle with a lot of things paid for.

Or play in a nothing developmental league/in front of 25000 people/getting paid some money but having to pay for a lot of daily expenses/no one knows who you are/no 18-19 year old coeds around cause they are all in college.

What would you rather do?

50 or 60K is a lot of money for kids coming from nothing. They're not gonna care if there is 5 people in the stands or 105,000.

Allowing kids to go to a D-League would kill college football. Its already killed college basketball, the way they've allowed the NBA to dictate things.

Paying players will always be a pipe dream as long as 70% or more of the college athletic programs operate near or in debt.

I believe in giving people a choice.

At first you may see some potential stars go that direction.

But the NFL stand for Not for long for a reason.

The college game will always have an appeal.

All you have to do is insist they have the same union mandated rules of being three years from high school and boom, it's now a development league for border NFL talent, young stars who need playing time and veterans who want a last go round.....

omg.... it becomes the MLS.

It'll be for kids who can't get into colleges and/or don't want to deal with school.

But mostly, it'll be an extra league for those who get out of school and can't make it in the NFL.

I think you should look back at what players for the league that didn't make it were paid.

I doubt they would be paid anywhere close to that. Many would have 2nd jobs to make ends meet.

But like someone said, it'll be up to the NFL.

No way would I encourage an 18yr old to go to any kind of developmental league....esp football.

Sure they may get 50-60k but their ability to properly workout would be hindered. By that, I mean theses developmental players would need a weight trainer and a nutritionist so they could be prepared to move up to the NFL. We'll that's what College Football will do for them and do it for free.
It would be difficult to be able to pay for a trainer and nutritionist and provide for yourself, muchless a family imo.

Kids need to go to college and then to the NFL camps. If they can't make a nfl roster, then take your shot with the minor league version of the nfl.
