Thinking about coming to Atlanta to watch the game with a friend who just moved there. Neither of us are terribly familiar with the bar scene.

My top concerns are:

1) Bar with a good gameday atmosphere
2) Reasonable drink prices
3) Close to the action

...How 'bout it? I might try to get a ticket, but usually just end up watching at bars.

I think Gameday is going to be there. If so, they'll likely have a big screen set up outside the new dome. Take a cooler of your own and have at it.

There aren't too many options by the stadium, or really downtown at all. Go down during the day, tailgate, and then catch a ride to Buckhead to watch the game.

Also I'm sure there will be a watch party at whatever the Alabama bar (or bars) is in Atlanta.

Are you specifically looking for the midtown area? Hudson Grille is a big Bama spot.

I manage at a bar in Buckhead too, but we're an official watch location for FSU alumni and I would't recommend going there if you're rooting for Bama.

5 Paces, The Ivy and Kramers should all be good locations for Bama fans though. Good tvs and Ivy has food too (although its a mile from all the other Buckhead bars).

I don't know the reputation but Stats has always been fun for me when we play in the GA Dome.

If you are hanging out by the stadium the area down Marietta St with Stats has a few other bars.

If not staying down there Smith's Old Bar in Midtown/Morningside is a good Bama bar owned by Bama folks and pretty famous. If just looking for an overall scene of all sorts of folks and bars then the Highlands is probably a good bet. The Buckhead spots above would probably be a good time too.

There's a bbq joint downtown near some German restaurant that's really good.

My friend lives in Alpharetta but I'd like to go to Midtown or somewhere close-ish to where people are going to be for the stadium and whatnot
