What does it take for the defense to share in the blame for losing a game?

Nobody wants to do that because the defense is tied to Coach Saban, and nobody wants to indirectly criticize a legend (somewhat rightfully so).

We have put a premium on changing our offense to "keep up with the times" rather than retooling the defensive strategy to keep up with changing offenses.

Huh? We have definitely changed our defensive philosophy to keep up with the offenses. We have gotten lighter and faster utilizing more quick twitch hybrid guys

Some of you guys seem to ignore the fact that the defense played well for more than 3 quarters of that game, but eventually, when the offense keeps turning the ball back over to a prolific offense, any defense will tire. As previously noted, only 2 offensive series produced more than 5 plays, so Clemon got 99 plays. That is 99, as in 1 less play than a hundred. Also noted was the fact that the defense produced 2 turnovers on Clemson's side of the field, and the offense parlayed that into 3 whole points.

That loss was not the fault of the defense.

When it stayed on the field for what seemed like an entire half.

And for some reason we lay that all at the feet of our true freshman QB. I still don't know why. I think it has more to do with the offensive game plan but that's just me.

If Dieter could catch a damn cold we would have won that game. He's a senior WR and that's a struggling true freshman QB. He throws a wide open pass for a badly needed first down and dude just drops it.

I'm still mad about that. He catches that ball and we win. Period.

Blaming the freshman QB is low hanging fruit. And when your head coach is a living legend, criticizing the offensive gameplan is indirectly blaming CNS.

Nobody will look at the stats and say "we had a 6ypc average, why did Clemson run the ball more than us?" ... the narrative is "why did Jalen not convert more 3rd downs?" ... as if it was Jalen's choice not to feed our FOUR capable RBs and pound Clemson in submission.

This is another one of my issues... where is our WR development? We routinely sign 4 and 5 star WRs, yet somehow manage to have to dig into loser midmajor programs for grad transfer gold.

When we switched to a soft, big play offense that couldn't sustain drives.

I think that changes now that Kiffin is gone.

I think so too, but I hope it isn't just wishful thinking on my part.

Just read a post on premium site from one of their administrators that attended the scrimmage and he said Hurts burned the backup defensive backs that were out of position and that Tua did better against the first string defense.

Hurts misfired on that pass badly. Maybe Dieter should've caught it, but the blame there is at least 50/50 between him and Hurts.

To be fair, we were pounding the shait out of Clemson until Bo broke his leg. More than everything else, I think that is what led to the late game collapse.

FSU doesn't have Watson.

We also don't have Allen, Foster, Hump, etc.

I said this before the game that if we had 4 sustained TD drives that were more than 6 plays, we win the game. We didn't. Its also worth noting that unlike 2016, we didn't hold Clemson to any FGs when they got deep into our territory. Those two factors were the difference in the game.

I'm still trying to figure out why we weren't milking every second off the clock in the second half when we had the ball. We routinely snapped it with 10+ seconds left.

Two things:

1) Alabama has been a run-first team in the Nick Saban era (2007 and 2014 are the two lone exceptions).

2) Alabama has had more 1,000-yard receivers in the Saban era than in all other eras....combined.

That being said, here are the stats you asked for:

2011

1. Marquis Maze - 627 yards
2. Brad Smelley - 356 yards
3. Trent Richardson - 338 yards
4. Darius Hanks - 328 yards
5. Kenny Bell - 255 yards

2012

1. Amari Cooper - 1,000 yards
2. Kevin Norwood - 461 yards
3. Kenny Bell - 431 yards
4. Christion Jones - 368 yards
5. Eddie Lacy - 189 yards

2013

1. Amari Cooper - 736 yards
2. Kevin Norwood - 568 yards
3. DeAndrew White - 534 yards
4. Christion Jones - 349 yards
5. O.J. Howard - 269 yards

2014

1. Amari Cooper - 1,727 yards
2. DeAndrew White - 504 yards
3. Christion Jones - 264 yards
4. O.J. Howard - 260 yards
5. Chris Black - 188 yards

2015

1. Calvin Ridley - 1,045 yards
2. ArDarius Stewart - 700 yards
3. O.J. Howard - 602 yards
4. Richard Mullaney - 390 yards
5. Kenyan Drake - 276 yards

2016

1. ArDarius Stewart - 864 yards
2. Calvin Ridley - 769 yards
3. O.J. Howard - 595 yards
4. Gehrig Dieter - 214 yards
5. Joshua Jacobs - 156 yards
