Phil Savage's new book reveals that Saban said that about Kiffin, and Saban and Jake Coker had a loud argument in his office prior to the Ole Miss game where Bateman started LINK

quote:

Savage writes that Kiffin said into his headset "dumb players make dumb plays," which all the Crimson Tide coaches heard. Saban snapped back with "no, dumb offensive coordinators call dumb plays." There were probably a few expletives left out.

quote:

Savage writes that Coker and Saban got into a loud argument in Saban's office following a meeting during Thursday of that week, after Coker grew frustrated that Saban would not decide on a clear No. 1 quarterback.

Coker is one brave dude. If only Saban had listened, lol.

I can just imagine a player doing that to Coach Bryant.

I guess he was OK with this book since he wrote a forward to it....that unauthorized biography that came out last year really pissed him off.

If Kiffin wasn't such a booze hound and pantie chaser Alabama would have went back to back. He's the best offensive play caller Saban has ever had.

Agree.....I loved Kiffin......most explosive offense Bama ever had....he's brilliant but a loose cannon....we got another title out of it but it bit us in the arse this year....a Kiffin and Saban melt down was inevitable.

Oh well....onward and forward.

Wasn't Saban's fault. It was very clear what was expected of Kiffin. He couldn't handle it. Yes, he was very good on Saturdays but there's more to the job than showing up at game time to call plays. Loved what he did while he was there, but in the end, he showed he's still a spoiled, entitled lil bitch.

Coker was proved to be right. He should've been named the clear starter after Wisconsin

That's hindsight being 20/20. I remember a lot of people and some who were wiser than the average fan not being sold on Coker early in the year. He grew into the job and did well but in the beginning of the year he looked shaky at times.

I starting melting in that game as soon as Bateman was named the starter, and never stopped for obvious reasons.

I know a lot of people that went to Ole Miss being from Memphis. I sent a few a text as soon as Bateman was announced as the starter telling them congrats on the W.

As if Saban could understand a word Coker said when he was yelling. That dude's accent was thick when he was calm, I can't imagine him getting into his "pissed off good ole' boy" mode.

Not quite that much but was there and nearly had to fight an OM kid who was berating his girlfriend, then witnessed a drunk UA fan trying to fight every OM fan( eventually fought two at one time haha) on the way out and got stuck two hours in traffic. One of worst experiences at a game ever. Not to mention the loss

I remember thinking - you don't start a new QB third game of the season against a SEC team that you just lost to last year.

To be fair, they did actually fix the error in time and that wasn't the reason we lost the game. It was a sloppy game from start to finish, and it started with Bateman being named the starter.

A series of unfortunate frick ups.
