Currently Hurts leads all players with 38 attempts. IMO that is not a good thing to have the QB with the leading rushing attempts. Sure, I understand that not all of those were called plays but still that will get him hurt eventually or wear him down. Use those 5*RBs

Hurts 197yds 38att 5.18ave 41long 2TDs

Harris 327yds 36att 9.08ave 73long 1TDs

Scarbrough 68yds 23att 2.96ave 9long 3TDs

IT seemed like we were having a lot of success running between the tackles vs Ole Miss but never really exploited it, they had 2 safeties playing back (basically daring us to run)and we kept trying to pass, mostly short behind the LOS types plays. I read where 12 of his 19 attempts were behind the LOS.

What happened to taking what the defense gives you. We should have ran straight at them until they changed formations and then we could have exploited them with pass plays.

IMO we needed to run to set up the pass vs Ole Miss.

You're making the mistake of comparing Hurts to each running back individually.

Bama plays one QB (or at least will until the game is in hand) but roughly four running backs. For example, against Ole Miss Hurts had 18 carries but the team had 48 rushes - and that is his high for the season. Against USC he had 9 of the team's 45 and against WKU he had 11 of the 40 rushes.

So, for the season he has 38 of Alabama's 133 rushing attempts - 28.5%. IMO, that's not a terribly high number for a dual threat QB.

Not all are designed runs. Probably about 8-10 of those are scramble runs after passes were called.

Also, as someone else said, we are giving our RBs a bunch of carries spread out over 4 (mainly 2) guys. Those RB carries are much larger than our QB carries.

Would like to see Hurts # of runs lowered to 8-10 per game with the RBs getting 22-28 per game.

This. Absolutely nothing to worry about. In fact, it's a darn good thing, IMO. Just means that it's one extra weapon in the arsenal. As his passing improves, who would be a more dangerous and difficult QB to prepare for...McElroy, McCarron, Coker, or Hurts?

Plenty of dual-threat guys make it through the year without significant injuries. I love using him in the running game. That will setup down field throws later in the year.

I have no issue with him running as long as he plays smart and doesn't take big hits. Run out of bounds when you can, slide down, etc. Hew seems to do that pretty well unlike Coker who liked to run over MLB's.

That said, Harris has been a stud this year...we need to feed him more IMO.

We basically have 5 pretty good running backs if you count Hurts. Our guys will be fresh all year and every game. Harris is on pace for a big year.

I would be perfectly fine with JH having "0" rush attempts this week!
