Not badly, but I was most disappointed is our disarray on defense early in the game.

A&M also had studied our passing game and set their defense to bait AJ. Their nose tackle gave Jones trouble all game. Made some good plays.

Manziel was 16 for 17 at one point. He was their entire offense. Mike Evans had his way early on but John Fulton got better as the game went along and made some fine plays late in the game. He had to cover Evans all game it seemed. Swopes was fearless over the middle.

It was a great exciting game we should have won at the end.

-------------------------------------

After re-watching, I am confident we will beat them this year. Their staff did an excellent job preparing for us. I think Saban & company will be more prepared for them this year.

You can't deny that A&M had everything go their way in terms of luck. Just look at some of the catches they made- it was ridiculous. And we made mistakes we hadn't made before- like the 4 pass plays at the 2 yard line, the offsides on the punt, ect. It was just a perfect storm that resulted in an A&M win. We could easily have won that game

Moving Spencer Nealy over the Center was a great move by them, gave Jones fits. Much like Nick Gentry, he wouldn't go away. He's quicker than you'd think and he'll bulldog you until he wins.

The scramble after Hubbard had him gobbled up is embedded in my mind, such a crucial play that winds up as a score. He had him, yet Manziel gets away.

The turn around was vintage Bama after the big lead they took, just couldn't finish it. A&M said they had practiced against that goal formation which resulted in the last INT, which makes me wonder how they tack that down a favorite call. They most definitely came well prepared for the game.

The thing I still want to see is the rotations of the 2 teams, who got forced onto the field or who got trapped on it. I think they made that point this spring to prepare for that. There didn't seem to be a lot of weight gain, but more streamlining of builds. Specifically the DL, Ivory is down to 305 after playing around 315-320 while Fanning dropped down to 270 after being around 285-290.

This. Although if we truly got outcoached, I say fire Saban. We can't be getting outcoached around here

Players make plays and A&M made more. There is no bitch in Sumlins blood either. Him and JFF are absolute nails. Hopefully this year Alabama hits them in the mouth for 4 quarters.

I said not bad and not all game long, but it was obvious they were more prepared for our offense than we were theirs.

Kirby made adjustments and stopped the bleeding. I have no problem giving their coaching staff credit, and it's only my opinion.

I couldn't re-watch the game because my dvr shut off before the end of the game due to the late start.

I found it on uTube and watched it again for the 1st time.

Peace.

What frustrated me the most was seeing Hubbard rushing hard upfield on the edge in the 2nd half. This created big running lanes for JFF after he had been absolutely gashing us with his legs in he 1st half.

It's what makes someone like JFF so difficult to defend. If you mush rush, he's a good enough passer to pick you apart with his arm. If you rush hard, he'll slip through a lane and gash you for 20.

I think the key will be perfectly disguised and timed blitzes and having a very athletic and disciplined spy.

the push has to come up the middle, not wide around the edges. the outside backers have to mush, and the dline has to collapse the pocket from the middle. Their oline was very good and we never got much push against them, partially because we were totally beat up from the LSU game. Like was said earlier, it was a perfect storm, and we still nearly won the game. Im pretty sure they will not have another quarter where they score 20 points on us. its a matter a familiarity. We got gashed in the first quarter but adjusted well and held them to 9 points for 3 quarters.

I also see us not even giving them the chance to score 20 in the first. Looong drives. Just nickel and dime them down the field, work Yeldon, wear their D out in the first quarter and let our D rest. The more fresh our D is as the game goes on the better.

When it's all said and done, had we run the goddamn football from the four yardline instead of pass, we win the fricking game.

So, yea, we were out coached. Not that it matters today.

Agreed. How were they gonna stop Lacy or Yeldon behind the best OL in the country and BMW? Maybe they could hold em off, but not four times in a row.

Alabama's missed opportunities played a factor. I didn't see the game, only the highlights...but Yeldons fumble was a missed opportunity, the under thrown pass to Cooper was a missed opportunity (If I remember correctly Cooper had a couple of steps on the defender) and of course the INT to end the game. Had Alabama cashed in on one of those opportunities, Alabama wins because momentum was swinging Alabama's way imo.
A&M otoh capitalized on.opportunities. JFF having ball knocked loose, then recover and make a throw for a TD was big. Swopes catch down the sideline was huge also and I could go on and on.

Playing LSU the week before and the emotion that went along with it played more of a factor in us starting slow than their coaching.

We got out-coached. It happens. But that wasn't the main reason we lost. We were tired and JFF was in the zone. The only 2 losses I blame almost strictly on coaching in the Saban era were the UL Monroe loss and the 6-9 loss to LSU in 2011.

We weren't a GREAT GREAT team last year. We had an amazing o line, AJ played awesome, Coop became a monster, and Milliner was shut down. Everything else was down. We still somehow won the championship. Pretty damn good

The 2011 team wouldve beat the 2012 team by 20 plus points

Kirby already said his biggest mistake was bringing instead of 5 and it wasnt until they started bringing 5 that they were stopping Manziel more regularly.

8 months of prep. I like our chances this time around.

Despite it being a title win, I was probably most pissed at Cooper in the BCSCG game. AJ threw two passes to his arse and he didn't even attempt to lay out for em. He was just like "Meh, whatever." They were both right in front of him and he made no attempt. Hope it wasn't an early sign of a Sophomore slump.

Think about what it took for A&M to beat us. 16/17 from Manziel, poor offensive production from AJ, a fumble late and we still had a chance to win it. Four horrible play calls from Nuss sealed it.
