You've met with just about all the important people at Bama by now.... but have you met Sarah Patterson? I think she's still in knee rehab but if you get the chance, pick her brain because, Championships aside, she created probably the most fan friendly, production that exists in this town outside of Bryant Denny. Heck just on this video alone...
-Look what kind of atmosphere you get with students in good seats.
-are pyrotechnics allowed for Mens Basketball? Because fireworks for the starting lineup would be sick.
-Can we bring back fan buses to close games like MSU and the Barn? Fans love being treated like a weapon, a vital cog in the machine.
Video aside and one last one
-Midnight Madness... so we're a football school (yeah, I hear ya softball/gym, we just are)... we're still full of college kids and they love any excuse to stay out late, it'll be awesome.

I met Sarah Patterson at a charity event one time and asked her how she got a fan base that was football driven, to buy into gymnastics and sell out every game. She basically said there was around 80,000 in Tuscaloosa and enough kids on campus to be able to sell out the arena. Her goal was to get all of them, in the seats. She won over the locals first. Then once she started winning championships, the seats would always fill no matter what.
I think any new HC at UA should take this approach. Coach Johnson has done a great job so far in the offseason, but still has a lot to do. I'm excited for basketball season. IDC if we so suck, I'll be there every game I can screaming my lungs off to provide an atmosphere recruits would love to play under.

Honestly, we should probably play a game of two in Birmingham, Montgomery, and Mobile.
And can we please move the students to a better spot than the corner. It would look better on TV and for potential recruits.

Excellent idea, baseball and softball do this all the time, pretty easy with their huge schedules do pick an away game at an instate. Even gymnastics elected with Auburn to play a meet in Birmingham and that thing resulted in a crowd of about 8,000 that filled the lower bowl of the BJCC.
When the an SEC schedule comes out that only has us playing Auburn once, I'd say float the idea by Auburn of having a neutral match in Birmingham.

It's not huge, but Bama coming to town should be able to fill it.
If you want something bigger, there's Garret Coliseum

I would not go to Montgomery for anything.

I think we should absolutely have a few games in Bham every year. Some of those December games when the students aren't on campus and maybe even an SEC game or two. Birmingham is a great market but sometimes its just tough for people to make it to a weeknight 8:00 tipoff in Tuscaloosa. Bring the show to them.
Hell, I'm not opposed to having an early season round robin tournament with AU, UAB, and either Samford/Troy/USA at the BJCC. That SEC-Big East challenge at the BJCC a few years ago was awesome.

Absolutely. This is priority 1. Its college basketball 101...get the students involved in the game. It helps give you a home court advantage and give your program the right optics. It honestly pisses me off knowing we have people in our AD who can't grasp that simple concept. All of these people with Sports Marketing and Administration degrees yet all they could come up with was a fricking Star Wars night.
