Was he forced out/fired or did he just decide to leave?

Saban said it was mutual, but reading between the lines makes me think he was asked to go.

I think the press conference last week had as much to do with this move as the game. "Look at me" guys don't usually make it far in this program.

""Mutual decision" this is about as mutual a decision as Lanes divorce. "

Kiffin made too many shitty little comments this past week. I'm sure that didn't help.

I would be willing to bet almost any amount that Saban told him he couldn't do anything regarding FAU for the next ten days and when Kiffin told him that wasn't possible, they just cut ties.

Yep. The moment you start saying you aren't having fun and all you'll remember are the arse chewings, you're hurting the program.

I'm sure his "I'm stuck in Tuscaloosa" joke didn't help as well. He clearly thought the leash was off when he got this new job.

I'm going with it was Saban's gentle suggestion that he get his shite together after his lackluster playcalling against UW or get out. And at that point Lane mutually agreed to GTFO.

Personally, I think Saban saw that his lack of focus could cost him a championship and made the right move.

Late to meetings, getting left behind at media day, public “arse-chewing” comments contributed to Lane Kiffin’s exit, sources told @ESPN

Translation: Saban told him to gtfo

Sounds like Kiffin got a new job and just didn't give a shite about his old job. Classy

Without saying to much, Kiffin's GF and ex got into a fight over the kids at the game. Very open type fight. Call it icing on the cake, and there's a reason Hurts and Bozeman looked confused at times.

Are these two connected?

No not connected but one shows public embarrassment for the University and the other shows poor prep which leads to confusion on the offense
