I am liking this defense.

The pass rush is getting pressure every play. Lots of defensive scores. The run defense is great. Still look out of place on deep balls though, and vulnerable on the timing routes.

This defense is much more agressive and I like it

Not yet. We need more than 7 games to know. We had Kirby calling plays for 8 years.

I like how aggressive we are.

Add in the talent evaluation and you are 190% right.

Plus Pruitt isn't flailing around on the sideline like a damn child.

I never thought i would see a D i liked better than 92, then 2011 came and i said will never see better. This defense is probably not as great but I love the aggression too and they are a terror to the spread teams. May end up being my all time favorite D if they bring it home.
PS- am not a well known poster but follow this board daily. Have been on suspension for a year and glad to be back RTR

my brother keeps reminding me that in recent non nc years, our offenses scored on basically everybody. it was kirbys defenses that faltered. with that in mind. my biggest concern with pruitt vs kirby was how would pruitt handle the fast break, hunh, rpo offenses that kirby struggled with so much.
so far, ole mis put up a ton of yards and points but we won the game. tn never got on track. i'm anxious to see how we perform against a&m. fingers crossed.

Our athletes on defense now are more capable of controlling that offense. Look at the way our linebackers on the inside can run - both Reuben and Shaun. Anderson and Williams can both get after the passer but are both pretty good against the run also - I'd put Anderson as better than "pretty good" even. Jon Allen goes without saying. Harrison is a unique athlete with his size/speed combo. Not great in coverage right now, but pretty good. Eddie gives you a corner-type at safety with crazy instincts and ball skills. This is a very well-constructed defense with none of the lumbering guys we've put on the field in the past (and no disrespect to some of them, who were very good players for us - just not as capable against these types of offenses).

Pruitt blitzes more than Kirby, but the reality is that this year's defense is this stage of an evolution that started a few years ago. As much as we may have liked them, there really may not be a place on this team for a Terrence Cody, Josh Chapman, or Jesse Williams. We don't recruit massive DLs. We've moved toward slightly smaller, faster, more agile defensive linemen. And Smart was part of that evolution.

Still our biggest weakness is the dynamic QB with a big-time arm, and running ability.
Trevor Knight will be a HUGE test for this defense.
So far the only good QB we've faced lit our defense up all game. Anthony Averett on an island is the stuff of nightmares

no doubt we've changed the types of players we use up front. the lb'ers are smaller and faster but still strong headhunters. in my mind i keep going back to either last year or 2 years ago, whichever. ga with a pruitt coached defense shut gus malzahns offense down. the next week auburn was lights out against us. we won but only because we outscored them. not because our defense shut them down.

AA has been solid all year and has performed significantly better than Hump. Now that hump is in gimped they should be on the same playing field.

Uh, you mean Marlon Humphries.
Last I checked Averett held his own against Ole Miss, Kentucky and Arky while Marlon had giving up hundreds of yards and pass interferences left and right.
