Alabama-USC grades: Tide front seven put on a show

quote:

Quarterback grades: Jalen Hurts, 60.1; Blake Barnett, 65.6 Through one game, it’s difficult to give the edge either way in the Alabama quarterback competition. Jalen Hurts made the splashier plays (good and bad), and he certainly flashed as a runner, while Blake Barnett was more accurate, albeit on fewer opportunities. In the end Barnett earns the higher grade for going 5-of-6, with his lone incompletion coming on a drop from Calvin Ridley.

Top offensive grades:
TE O.J. Howard, 75.8
C. Bradley Bozeman, 74.9
WR ArDarius Stewart, 72.4
WR Gehrig Dieter, 70.7
RB Damien Harris, 70.5

quote:

Interior lineman Jonathan Allen had the highest-graded game of his college career while edge rusher Tim Williams recorded a pressure on a whopping 29 percent of his pass rushes.

Don't really know why PFF changed their grading system but interesting to see nonetheless.

BB8 score while it mattered/under pressure = shoe knocked off

Hurts score while it mattered/under pressure = Shoes firmly located on feet

If Bozeman had the highest score on the OL what the hayul are they gonna do with Shank ?

CNS said at the presser that Shank would play going forward.

I was thinking this would mean that RP would slide to C, and Bozeman would become the 6th OL.

i saw Shank on the sidelines and he is still way too heavy. NS said he would play but he did not say he would start. He could play on the special teams on the OL for extra point and and FG. We will be playing a team this weekend where a lot of guys will get some PT

If Shank plays significantly, it'll likely be RG and Cotton taking a seat to Pierce backer.

Still not a fan of Shank, but they do apparently see value in him...

Yeah, while I've heard it applied to another Bama QB multiple times, Barnett really had that deer in the headlights look the first couple of possessions...to his credit, he looked very sharp when he came back in, albeit after we built a big lead. Hopefully, that will be huge for his confidence and he'll build on that...the long passes to Dieter and Howard were darts...

I don't know the first thing about this grading system. But what I seen Saturday night was that we have 2 younguns that can slang it all over the field. The future looks bright at qb! Heres to hoping we can keep 'em both happy enough to hang around.

PFF shows how insane Alabama LB Tim Williams’ performance was against USC

quote:

Pro Football Focus measured the pass-rushing productivity from Week 1 and Williams topped the list.

“Williams was the best in the nation, with a PRP rating of 23.4,” PFF wrote of his performance. “That number itself is ridiculous, but when you really dig into it, you see that Williams got pressure of some form once every 3.2 pass-rushing attempts. Texas A&M’s Myles Garrett has a phenomenal game against UCLA, but even he trailed Williams, averaging a pressure once every four pass-rushing snaps.”

Nice to see Bozeman with such a high grade Week 1 against a formidable defense.

That lost shoe sack of BB was Harris' ineffectiveness as a pass blocker

Jon Allen looked like the best player on the field regardless of what the math says... JMO
