Duh

Anyway, there are certain issues that persist and I wonder why they aren't corrected.

1. Lack of pass rush. Bama has better pass rushers this year, all excellent athletes, but across the front there seems to be very little pass rush technique. The linemen just seem to lean on the O-line and hope to bull rush or get lucky and break away. Sometimes the front four get pressure, but it is rare and inconsistent.

2. Special teams. Not sure what to say here. It seems the Tide is going to give up at least one long return in every game they play. And it has been a while since the Tide has had a consistent PK.

3. Still can't get the signals in on offense or defense. This has become a huge issue. The defense is not aligned waiting on the signal from the bench. On offense, even without a huddle, it takes the full 35 seconds to get the play in way too often and cost timeouts in the loss to OM. It seems like the system used to signal plays on both sides of the ball is clunky or outdated and needs to be revamped for the world of the spread.

The season is five games deep and these problems should have been fixed by now. Not sure why, with a field full of 4-5* players on the field, they can't get these problems fixed.

Turning the ball over
Not taking the ball away
Penalties
Kicking game
Kick coverage
Packing it in offensively with less than 2:30 in the first half
Consistency in run blocking

1. This one was frustrating as hell Saturday. The Ole Miss OL absolutely whipped them in pass rush in the 2nd half. We had our way with them in run defense, but there was no push and Wallace had a huge pocket to throw from the entire 2nd half. Maybe that was by design.

2. Not as worried about the field goals as I am the terrible coverage on kickoffs. This has been an issue for a few years now.

3. On defense, I think it's time to simplify things a bit and quit trying to make so many pre-snap adjustments and audibles. There were several times where we were still adjusting as the ball was snapped on Saturday. This has also been an issue for a couple of years now.

Saban has given the answer before while trying to address another issue. His response was that when one player misses a call or does not do his job it creates a hole for a busted play. Even if the call is wrong, as long as all the players are doing the same wrong call, everything should be fine.

If you simplify and use a good call rather than the "best" call - everything should be fine. You may not have the "best" results every time but if you can let talent take the place of thinking for a complex system, the talent can bridge part of the gap from good to perfect.

Why is it that running is never brought up this year?

If our running game may be above average for most teams in America or even way above average... but compared to recent years we aren't even close. That drop off has been frustrating to me at least.

Also.... PENALTIES. Crazy how many more penalties we're getting this year.

Here's one. We keep pissing away double digit leads and choking to teams we should beat.

I also believe fans rushing the field after their team beats Bama is becoming a little too persistent.

I think the worst thing we could do is dumb down the defense.

Baseball style signals work great for baseball. But not for calling stunts, blitzes, gaps and coverage in 25 or less seconds.

I dont care about this offense, when they are on they cant be stopped.

The defense is the main problem, the 09 or 11 defense gives up 3 points last sat. And that is only due to the kickoff fumble.

Simplify the system of communication and 95% of the other so called problems go away or dont stick out to enough to be a problem.

1. I think penalties are the biggest issues. A whole week of practice as the #1 center should help Bozeman a lot.

2. I don't get the criticism of Griffith. I don't think it's warranted. He's 8 for 11, including 4 for 6 from 40-49. Remember WVA? Three from that distance, with the game in the balance on every one. When did Foster ever do that? He never even made one from that distance with the game on the line. And remember that Griffith is basicaly only 5 games into his career as a starter. We've got him for two more years after this one, and I'm damn glad that we do.

is physically impressive. He looks the part, and seemed physical with his blocking on Saturday.

I think we've got to improve on the oline. Bozeman seems like he can get considerably more push than Kelly. The left side is strong but the right side needs a talent upgrade; time to give Jackson a chance. The 09, 11, and 12 teams, even the 08 team had the ability to dominate teams with their run game. That's bama football and that's what we've got to get back to.

probably the hardest to understand is kick coverage. We are the only team who uses four and five star players on kick coverage and they couldn't cover my sister. Are they too good to take special teams seriously. do we need walk-on's to come in and show them how to knock someone stupid on a kick coverage unit?

No doubt. No excuse to be so poor with all the athletes we have playing special teams.

Game was a carbon copy of the 2012 LSU game in which we led 14-3 at halftime. We came out in the second half with the " we got this game won " mentality.

No effort on the pass rush.

No effort from the runners ti keep drives alive with extra effort to get first downs.

Play calling gone wrong, a la, getting cute in 2nd and 4 at the 44 yard line of Ole Miss or on our first second half drive where we allow tje QB to run a zone read and lose 4 yards when were killing them with the run up the middle or sweeps.

Someone explain to me why Jones returns kickoffs IN A CLOSE GAME, LATE? ?? Cooper should get that job late if the game is on the line he won't fumble it.

The thing that concerns me is that was it's indoors in a dome he played in several times in high school. Luckily our biggest games the rest of the year are at home.

Cade Foster Syndrome. It's a little like PTSD where anything that bears the slightest resemblance to Cade Foster sends Bama fans into a panic. You can find even the toughest fans break out into cold sweats and assume the fetal position when we go for field goals.

I'd add another issue (although it may just be a subset of #3):

4. Confusion in the secondary...in the Ole Miss game it was readily apparent as every time they ran trips, our DBs were unsure of their assignments...but I also saw it at times in the WVU game and even once in the UF game (their first TD)...receivers get wide open and then, after the play, our DBs turn around, shrug their shoulders wondering who was supposed to be covering that guy...

We're also gettin' killed with the back shoulder throws...thought it might be an issue with our CBs never lookin' back for the ball...but I'm thinking now that's just how they're taught since they all seem to do it...the last Bama CB I can recall that consistently looked back for the ball was Milliner...

Another issue is that I don't think saban will ever let Kiffin call risky explosive plays against good teams. Against UF he did because he didn't trust UF's offense to capitalize if we turned it over. Either all of our past OCs all go full retard and forget how to call big plays or our coach is handicapping them, thinking our defense is good enough to win without any help from our offense. We are all too content to sit on a lead.

I seem to remember a 99 yard TD pass in the IB last year.

fwiw our defense was good enough to win for three quarters. Kelley goes down our offense has the miscues and we stall, they punt to the one and we have to give it right back to an offense in rythym and then the fumble. But leading up to that our defense had been playing great.
