I think most years they've offered a guy a greyshirt, they've had a chance to enroll in the Fall if they just waited.

For all the ballyhoo about Darius Philon, people don't remember he could have actually enrolled had he justed trusted the process.

Don't see how that's possible. We signed a full class yesterday and unless I'm wrong adding him would put us over the single year limit.

I'm pretty sure the only way he gets a scholarship this year is if someone doesn't qualify.

Falkins is probably leaving too. Foster and Falkins probably haven't graduated yet, so they can't leave as a grad transfer until they do.

True, but in Philon's case it ended up working out well for him. He was a stud at Arky and is in the NFL now...

Hope something opens up and Parks is able to join the team in the Fall...

It appears the 25 class-size cap is the roadblock, not the 85 total cap. Since we signed only 26, it appears we only had room to backcount one of our EEs.

Byers is going to Juco for summer and fall, and it appears Brannon and Bulovas will be blueshirts. But Parks can't be a PWO or blueshirt due to his official visit to UA. It appears that's why grayshirt was the only option for Parks.

Parks' grades are great, so maybe he can get non-athletic scholarship aid for summer and/or fall semesters, but I don't think he could practice with the team until after fall semester.

If the above is correct, I don't see how we could've fit in anyone else, such as Solomon, without losing or grayshirting someone else. I believe it is correct, because I think Andrew Bone said something to the effect that Bama would've had to somehow make room for Solomon.

However, It was just recently reported that the NCAA granted a waiver to Blake Barnett, making him elligible to play as of the first game next season. I wonder if Bama could gain another backcount space from that. If so, it appears that would make room for Parks in the 2017 class.

When the last update to rules came out by the NCAA including the 25 cap list they also said any player that signs a NLI is a counter even if they later do not qualify. Why Byers did not sign one. In the past we could sign and place but no more.

If he can enroll in the Fall via another means other than athletic scholarship, why can't he practice/play? Not saying you're wrong, just curious...I would think that'd be similar to a walk-on that's later given a scholarship...

I may be wrong, but I believe you are defined as having been "recruited" by the school if you take an official visit, get an in-home coach visit or sign an NLOI, which then disqualifies you from being a walk-on or blueshirt at that school.

Tidewarrior has just posted some info in the recruiting megathread showing we can backcount four and that it may be the 85 total cap at issue. So I think he's essentially saying further attrition by fall could potentially free up room to get Parks on a scholly by fall.

How can this kid not be a fan favorite? Already love him and I predict that he works hard and makes a name for himself.

While the GS may not lead to a schollarship this fall, so many times it does, most recently Bozeman. He was taking GS, when they called and had him Come On Down (or up in his case) looking at the class and the available numbers (85wise) it would look like there may an issue unless someone leaves (as they always seem to do between end of year and end of Spring practice) I would not be surprised if at least 2 to 4 guys opt for playing time at another school (who could blame them esp if they have or will graduate soon). Any way, HCNS has always seemed to make the numbers work, and by the way, He Has A Guy that checks on all that!!! Hang in there Mr. Parks, relieve soon come.
