Has anyone been to the Globe since it has reopened downtown? I worked as the chef at night there with the owner Jeff while I was finishing up school in 92-95.

Small world. I worked for Jeff when he was GM of a hotel after the original Globe closed. I know the new Globe is already gone but I hope he's doing alright.

We'll arrive in Tuscaloosa around 6pm. What is the best steak place and where should we grab beers afterward?

Thanks.

Yeah I wouldn't try for nicks if you get there that late. Try Desperados. Great steaks and everyone raves about the cheesecake.

Edit: just noticed he posted 2 weeks ago. Yeah so, probably not any help to ya now.

There is pepitos in Northport. Don Tonos downtown in Temerson Square is solid. Blue Iguana in Midtown village is solid.

breakfast - anywhere ...

lunch - you must go to the original archibald's across the river ... much better than dreamland ... mugshots and glorybound are decent, as is moe's ...

dinner - cypress inn or chuck's ... depalmas isn't bad ... there are no good mexican places in tuscaloosa ...

drinking - alcove is the tits ... innisfree for the large, get drunk crowd, but alcove is the place for a more sophisticated evening ...

2 breweries are open in Tuscaloosa too. Black Warrior Brewing and Druid City Brewing both offer some high quality suds. Both are smoke free environments too.

Los Tarascos on Skyland is good, and Lope'z on Watermelon Road in Northport is pretty good. I used to really like the quesadillas at El Rincon, but they kind of sucked when I went last month.

I don't even like porters all that much, but Druid City's NorthPorter is one of my favorite beers. So good. Really like their saison as well. Didn't care for their IPA all that much. Great guys that run it as well.

I am much more partial to Druid City over Black Warrior myself, but within the past year, I feel like Black Warrior has upped their game. I think the Pale Ale, Wheat, and Saison are really good beers. The Stout is okay. I am not a fan of the Lamplighter IPA. I don't really remember the North Porter. There was a restaurant that mixed two of their beers 2:1 Stout to Pale Ale (or it could have been the other way, I don't really remember), and that was excellent.

For Black Warrior, I thought the Blonde and Apricot Wheat beers were pretty good. The Brown Ale and Pale Ale were okay. The Strawberry Blonde was a bit odd.
