Think they're beginning to tear down The Locker Room and start building the CVS there.

Tuscaloosa has $35 million for infrastructure projects

quote:

Of the money secured, the City Council already has approved the use of $30.1 million. That money will go to primarily road projects, including $5 million for a citywide paving contract of about 130 streets; $4 million each for improvements to Rice Mine Road and rebuilding portions of Jack Warner Parkway; $3.5 million to upgrade James I. Harrison Parkway; and $3 million for improvements to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Ryan's closed. I assume that the Golden Corral that was in talks will go in that location. Upgrade imo

There is this new place called Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes and Fries on McFarland. It's located in the new strip with Dunkin's and Sprint. The one right before you get to Captain D's

C-SPAN in town to film shows

quote:

Because of the roles of weekend C-SPAN2 and 3, producers seek strong literary scenes and rich history, and Tuscaloosa fits, Hill said. The University of Alabama presence was significant, not just for its own history and architecture, but for the rich legacy of its writing programs and writers.

"And a favorite thing of mine, when I travel down South, there are all of these beautiful old homes, and they all have a story to tell," she said.

A kickoff event Monday at the Jemison-Van de Graaff Mansion will include remarks from Mayor Walt Maddox, Hill, a representative from Comcast, which helps sponsor the tour, and Ian Crawford, executive director of the Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society. Crawford's been working with C-SPAN for a few weeks, helping find local contacts, places and stories.

Plans for a new playground

quote:

The Tuscaloosa All-Inclusive Playground Project and the Tuscaloosa Park and Recreation Authority Foundation unveiled the design for a $1 million all-inclusive playground on Thursday.

The Tuscaloosa-themed playground will be located on a four-acre section at Munny Sokol Park, and playground designers have indicated that it will be the largest inclusive playground in the Southeast.

New restaurant coming on Jack Warner

quote:

Set for a mid-May opening, River will offer lunch, dinner and a weekend brunch inside the Riverwalk Place, where Another Broken Egg and Orange Leaf are tenants.

“It has been a privilege to be part of the growing restaurant scene here in Tuscaloosa for more than 35 years,” Henson said in a statement. “We are really excited about this gorgeous location on Jack Warner Parkway and the opportunity to serve our customers the very best Southern-inspired and chef-driven food in an atmosphere that will be relaxed, comfortable and welcoming.”

River will seat about 155 to 160 diners inside, with additional space on an open patio with stone fire pits and seating areas overlooking the river.

Bob Amick of Concentrics Restaurants has collaborated with Henson in creating the concept for River, which highlights Tuscaloosa's riverfront.

Based in Atlanta, Concentrics has developed a number of dining concepts across the country.

I'm wondering when we will get more decent coffee shops in Ttown. For housing such a large university, our coffee game is severely lacking.

There was a new tea shop that opened in downtown Northport that serves coffee. Then the new building coming on the corner of University and Greensboro will have a coffee shop.
