I haven't tried Pieology yet, but when I'm headed to Philosophy around 1, it's usually sort of full. It looks really nice, but obviously, nothing will probably beat Post Office Pies. Especially that it's near Inisfree.

A wing spot there would have been nice, but it would compete with Phils.
I would say it would compete with Quick Grill more. That spot isn't big enough for casual dining so it is more of a grab and go idea. It would kill with the late night crowd. A simple menu of burgers, fries, onion rings, wings and tenders would get it done.

I forgot you said burgers too. Wouldn't be opposed to it at all, The Strip needs something with better quality of food and selections. Phil's is alright to me, but what makes it successful is it's the most convenient and takes Bama dining.

I've eaten at the one in Bham. It's nothing special, but not horrible. I do like they charge one price for as many toppings as you want, and they have a pretty good selection of toppings. But the pizza is just okay. Better than Papa John's or Domino's, but not as good as Mellow Mushroom or Post Office Pies. Post Office Pies is my favorite pizza in Bham.

I have never understood the love for Phil's wings

Reminds me of the wings war in Tuscaloosa in the late 80's. Phil and Baumhower started Wings and Things together, and for reasons I forget(probably because Baumhower is a humongous a-hole), Phil split and started Buffalo Phil's. Baumhower sued Phil, but either lost or the case got tossed or they settled out of court, can't remember. Buamhower started his Wings restaurant soon after and there was a pretty intense competition between them for a couple of years. They each were able to move on and carve out their own niche.

I always preferred Phil's wings, but both have gone downhill a lot since those days. Really since Phil moved into its current location and became more of a pub/bar, and Baumhower moved from the strip to his spot next to the Hampton Inn.

Phil's wings must come from sickly chickens. Tiny, and just kind of weird.

The reason so many people go there is because of Dining$$$, and because its a kickass location.

That being said, I went there a lot during school, and enjoyed it most of the time. I love their buffalo chicken fingers, even though they are also small.

I can't wait for that building on the corner of University and Lurleen to be finished. It looks awesome already.

I hate the location of Baumhower's. Feels so far away from everything.

I refuse to go to the one in Montgomery because it took them an hour to turn one TV to the NHL playoffs.

I've only been to Baumhower's at its current location a few times. The food never has been that great to me, and last time I went they charged me $1.25 for extra wing sauce because they hardly put any on their wings.

There were plans to develop that piece of land between the Hampton/Baumhower's and University when they first built them, but they never materialized. I think the residents in that Buena Vista neighborhood effectively blocked it.

Forgot to mention that Buffalo Phil's and Wings were both on the strip, at opposite ends for a few years. Wings was next to the gas station on one end, and Phil's was on the other end in the strip of buildings that was torn down next to the Alabama Book Store.

Baumhower's moved from that location about a year ago. They are at Skyland and 69 now. I think the location off Hellen Keller is still empty.

It is always packed though. There have been several restaurants in that same location and all have failed, but Baumhower's is booming.

The one on Hellen Keller is being renovated. Baumhowers also wants to open a 3rd Baumhowers restaurant, which I'm a bit iffy on.

Wow, didn't know that. I even stayed at that Hampton a couple of nights this past summer and didn't realize Baumhower's was closed.

fun fact: about diamond sports in Tuscaloosa

Alabama softball's 2015 Home attendance average (2,781) LINK

actually beat Alabama baseball's last home average at the Joe in 2014(2,761) LINK

With the exception of a few SEC games (and the obvious field size) in 2014, Alabama baseball could have played at Rhoads with out much of a fan issue.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. But I do know I'm glad this city finally has a baseball stadium to be proud of. The first game will be probably be packed and AMAZING!

Some cool things:

Ol' Colony will host an NCAA Regional from May 16-18th. It's free to attend and you'll most certainly see a damn good Bama team.

University BLVD may finally see some improvements. If approved by the UABOT, they will find $2.7 million to the project, while ALDOT will find $8.6 million in grants. The project will be repaying and landscaping of University BLVD and 6th AVE. Along with this, finally some improved bike lanes, new medians, sidewalk lighting, and other shite I don't understand.

The Children's Hands On museum is relocating to Jack Warner. I don't know what will happen with the original building, but the new building will be 70,000 square-foot facility. They saw a big increase in visitor, bumping from 34,000 to 74,000 in over a year.

That's awesome. I can remember when it first started it was in the top floor of Smith Hall on campus.

Tuscaloosa has this new express Japanese place call OEC. It is pretty solid and extremely cheap. They have pretty good sushi too. I got a spicy tuna, spicy salmon and spicy crap for $12.75 plus tax. A shrimp dinner is like $8.50 and it comes with rice, veggies and salad. Its located in the Meadowbrook shopping plaza right down from Jason's Deli by Moe's
