More than likely because those people only drink miller/bud/coors lite excluding you of course.
I just didn't even know that disliking Avondale beer was a thing. I've lived here for about 2 and a half years and I've never heard anyone here express dislike for Avondale brews (besides the hangovers of course.) Obviously that's not to say that I'm right on this, it's just surprising to me.

Their Spring Street Saison is delicious.

Out of curiosity, how old are you? I've noticed the people that generally like Avondale are younger, closer to the just out of college age, while the ones that don't are older. I'm 43, and most of the people I hang around are around the same age, and they don't like it. The ones I do know that like it, and 2 LOVE it, are in their mid to late 20's. I think that has a lot to do with the scene there. Saturdays in the spring there feel like fraternity band parties, especially when they have crawfish boils.
And just to be clear, I only know a couple of other people that refuse to drink it like I do. Most just prefer the other local breweries, but will drink Avondale.

I don't dislike Avondale enough to where I'd order a water with my pizza at Post Office Pies.
I do prefer Good People beers, and it's not close. I think it's the belgian yeast that Avondale uses for all it's beers. It's just not my thing.

Haha, it was just a week after one of the aforementioned Avondale hangovers and I wasn't sure how long we were staying there. It was a school night and I had a meeting the next morning and I didn't want to deal with one of those hangovers during the meeting.
I've had a few Avondales since then, including once or twice at Post Office Pies. I always just have one though.

I'm 27, but I rarely go there for day parties. I will go for a good concert, but that's about it. I need to check out more day parties there because I love crawfish and the outdoor area there is nice. I usually just drink it from the store, though.
It's not my favorite beer or anything by any stretch, but I enjoy drinking it. To each his own

That leaves 3 available spaces on the Strip.
I've been told that at least 1 and maybe 2 national restaurant chains are moving into that building where the Cold Stone and TCBY were. That's why Cold Stone closed. The restaurant wanted that corner spot so the landlord bought Cold Stone's remaining lease. I don't know the name of the restaurant but was told they offer soft serve ice cream. Jason's Deli maybe?

Indeed. At least we can agree Post Office Pies makes great pizza.

Saw Miss Dots is officially open. It's packed right now.
I swear that River Fall bank has been paving that parking lot for months now. It's looking nice, but damn I wish it would hurry up.

Any locals heard anything else on the Whataburger rumored to be going up next to Academy in south Tuscaloosa?
Posted on 1/5/16 at 2:11 pm to AHM21
Haven't heard anything about a Whataburger or any other chained restaurants coming near Skyland. Granted I haven't been over there in a while, but no news of any recent development in that area.

All I had seen is a few rumblings on Facebook, but nothing was confirmed. Didn't notice any new construction when I was there for Christmas other than the Costa's BBQ had closed and they were remodeling.

quote:I went the other day and it was pretty solid. My gf and I had the gumbo and bacon wrapped scallops for apps and split the duck for dinner.
Don't know if it's been discussed yet, but 301 (located at L&N Station) has probably the fanciest bar/cocktail menu in town. They also serve 32 oz beers and have a bier garden. I haven't tried the food yet but hear it's excellent.
The gumbo was seasoned well but the texture was pretty off. The seafood had been sitting in the gumbo for too long and was basically mush. Also, the gumbo base was thicker than I'm used to but not in a bad way.
The scallops were good. They were wrapped in bacon although you couldn't really taste it. I think they drizzled molasses on them which kind of overpowered everything.
The duck was excellent. We changed the sides to Gouda grits which were meh and three cheese Mac and cheese which went really well with the duck.
The cocktail menu was decent although small. I think they are still building it up. I had a sazarac and a bourbon old fashioned. I don't remember what she had. All of the drinks were solid. Her drink was served in too big of a glass which meant the bartender overcompensated by adding soda water which obviously watered it down.
As far as who has the nicest cocktail menu, it's Epiphany and it isn't close. They have ~100 original cocktails on top of the classics or variations of classics like a sazarac or old fashioned. Just ask for the big cocktail menu if you don't believe me.
I had no complaints about the service. Overall, I was happy and would go back.

Construction of new road network on University of Alabama campus on schedule
I know they're taking down a waterfall in the process, but this will be awesome

Not yet. It seems nice though. Great location and decent sized.
