We actually looked good on FGs? That was a write-up on Bama football, right?

Main thing with Jalen that will help him is keeping his eyes down field. Lot of young QBs like to tuck it and run if their first read isn't there, and they often have their head locked on the incoming defender. He should evade the rush to buy more time for receivers. Remember seeing Terrelle Pryor do this at Ohio State and he looked night and day compared to what he looked like before. Jalen has the arm do make any throw.

I like the good reports on deVonta Smith but at 6'1 165 can he play in the SEC and not get broke in half? That's a toothpick!

Smith is going to turn into that clutch guy we are used to having. May not be the big name every team will focus on but will be the one coming up with the big play every game especially when needed. Probably in a great position as well with so many focused on Jeudy and Ruggs in the class.

I think it's a little too early to determine where his ceiling is. He may eventually be THE guy. We will see.

DrewD was on one of my weekly podcast this past week. Drew gets to watch the scrimmages, and has legit connections on the staff.

Couple things he said that were of note:

Wills was the staffs no.1 OL in the country (not A.L.)

Staff feels Wills can play all 5 OL positions

Staff believes there are currently 6 first round draft picks in the LB corp.

So does that mean, based on these reports, the staff wanted to give Womack a shot but would be comfortable with Willis taking that spot over?

What's he think about Jalen and the offense in general under Daboll?

I took it to mean Wills is on the fast track to playing time especially since he is capable of playing any position including possibly center next season.

This clip from RBR probably puts it best-

quote:

Matt Womack started at right tackle and played a series or two, then they let Wills in. Wills also played a lot of RT with the twos. He's still raw, and he missed on a couple of stunts, but I thought he was visibly more athletic than Womack. Saban commented that Wills had quickly earned the right to battle for the starting spot. Personally, I see that as being a question of when, not if.

So, Wills is likely one of the 5 best OL on the team right now, but he arrived during the summer, and still needs to learn his assignments. If he can do that before FSU I think he is the RT. Apparently Wills has WMD's for hands.

Every Bama source out there is agreeing (DrewD included) that Hurts has improved a lot in almost every facet of the game. When you hear he had a tough practice or scrimmage remember that tough day comes vs the Alabama first string Defense. A lot of good QB's gonna have a bad day vs Bama D.

Have not heard one bad word about Daboll. Everyone, players included love the guy.

Daboll, Locksley, and the analyst from OM that was hired during the offseason will have the offense clicking this season IMO.

If Wills could have gotten here in January, I bet he would have already taken the right tackle spot.

Recruits love him too.

If his play calling matches his adoration he could be the best Saban hire at Alabama.

As a former lineman, this is one of the greatest compliments you can get. If your fundamentals are sound your hands can make you devastating. Being able to use your hands can also make up for/give you margin for less than sound fundamentals.

Cam Sims seems like a forgotten player for us. What do people expect from him this year?

He looked good in the spring game, as well as when he got touches last year. I expect him to have a pretty productive year.

I expect that the staff would love to reward a hard working senior with playing time and I believe they will but for the most part the true freshmen are elite as frick and will seriously hamper any serious playing time as the season goes on.

I'd imagine at least two of Miller/Hamilton/Jennings/Lewis as well

True. I guess I read that as inside linebackers. Yeah, I could see 6. I think Hamilton lacks the measurables but he is a gamer for sure. Love the guy.

Maybe, or maybe they will not know all of their assignments for every play. Not be as talented of a blocker. Not as sure handed. There are ways a senior can beat out a more raw talented first year player. We shall see.
