I thought you were just referring to this game. On the topic of the season, are starting pitching is terrific. That's why I really want this team to get to the NCAA Tourny. If the hitting happened to get hot we could be dangerous. That being said I realize we have not had a very good season so far. A lot of close games that we lose. Good teams play close games, great teams win them.

We took the lead in the 9th. It started with a leadoff single by Cucjen(who also hit a solo homerun). He got to second on a wild pitch and then got to third on a ground ball. Vance got the rbi single by the first basemen.

With a runner on first the batter hits the homerun. The runner on first rounded second and then CAME OUT OF THE BASE PATH and headed toward home. He left the basepath. Next the guy who hits the homerun advances past the runner in front of him.

So I listen to Chris Stewart(Alabama play-by-play guy) he says the explanation from the umpires was (1) the runner on first did was not passed by the hitter(which is very debatable but ok) (2) the runner who was one first and left the base path and headed to home plate( he came past the pitchers mound folks) was quote " creating his own base path". Who has ever heard of a base path that goes from second base towards home and then curls back to third. If you are in a rundown you are declared out of the base path if you go a few steps either way. Much less coming in from second and passing the pitcher's mound.

It shouldn't have come down to one run anyways. We deserved to get beat.

Hey Gaspard
I know you are talking in general, not just tonight but he went out and fought for his guys. Andy Phillips went out. The players went out to argue. We could have played better and just won the game. Obviously that is what should have happened. But don't go after him tonight when we just got a game taken away from us. I feel for the players. You expect umpires to do there jobs. These did not.

I get that. Agree completely. But that does not excuse this ending. We are trying to make the NCAA Tourney. Every game matters.

Your right, every game matters, so we should get more than 2 runs against Samford. You can't trust the umps to always make the correct calls. If we scored 5 or more runs then no one would care about the missed call. It only matters because we can't score. That's on us and no one else.

Meh. At this point it's just another way we found to lose under Gaspard. It's hard to understand the inconsistency.

I get your point. I am just was looking at the situation we had created for ourselves. Leading by one run headed to the bottom of the 9th. I am not going to come on here and criticize the coaches, players, or anyone else associated with the Alabama baseball team. I have followed Bama baseball for years. I watched or listened to pretty much every game in 2012 when we went 21-34. I stayed up till like one in the morning when we went 16 with LSU. I watched gametracker and the little stick figures move across the screen for 3+ hours back before you could watch the games online like you can now. I am passionate about our team. I am realistic. When the season gets over I talk about changes, but during it I am cheering them on 100 percent.
