We're in desperate need of a sweep.

We salvaged one with a 13-4 win today. Now 8-13 in the SEC.
With our SOS, all it would take is .500 in the SEC to guarantee a regional and give us a good shot at hosting. We've had so many close calls. We're just a few plays away from being in a totally different position.
As it stands, I think we fire Gaspard if he loses the series in Auburn.

I don't see how we get to .500 in SEC play. Gaspard has exactly one year where he managed .500 or better, and that was last year at 15-14. That included a game at Texas A&M that wasn't rescheduled after inclement weather.

Down 6-2 to Southern Miss in the bottom of the 6th.
Southern Miss owns Gaspard even more so than most SEC teams do. I don't expect us to make the postseason. I'm afraid the fact that we have the past few years will buy Gaspard another year. I'm hopeful that someone tells Battle that this shite isn't going to cut it.
It pains me to see Alabama baseball be this bad more than it pained me to see basketball being terrible. We were good when I was a kid and I followed close. The fan support was once tops in the nation. It's fallen significantly. I just hope Battle realizes how far behind we are compared to the top teams in the division. The facilities have been a reason/excuse for underachieving since Wells retired. Sadly, this program hasn't recovered from letting him come back. We should have told him to stay retired and went after Bobby Pierce or some other up and comer. Instead, we're in the same position as every season and we're likely going to be in the same exact spot this time next year.
It's beyond frustrating for a long time fan.

I concur. It is absolutely brutal watching Bama lose series after series. I go out of my way to watch the team every weekend with the same results. Gaspard is not and will not get the job done. It is beyond time for a change.

Matt Riser
I want to see us go after Matt Riser.
They're 36-13 this year. They swept Louisiana Tech and lost 9-8 in a midweek game at LSU.

Taking over the reins of the Southeastern Louisiana baseball program at the age of 29, making him one of the youngest head coaches at the NCAA Division I level, Matt Riser led the Lions to one of the most successful seasons in school history. Southeastern finished the season with a 38-25 record, winning the Southland Conference Tournament to advance to NCAA Regional play for the first time in 20 years and knocking off Bryant University, 2-1, for the school's first NCAA postseason victory since 1992. Along the way, the Lions produced the top hitter in the conference, arguably the top pitcher and the conference's newcomer of the year.

I would want a bit more experience. Gaspard won at Northwestern State before coming back to Alabama. And enough with the Louisiana ties too.

I felt like the Gaspard hire was doomed from the start. The only reason we brought him in as an assistant is because Wells didn't believe Mal Moore would hire him when he retired for a week. Wells comes back, brings Gaspard back as an assistant, retires two years later and Gaspard gets promoted.
I've heard many say the reason Wells returned is because Gaspard wasn't the first choice to replace him.
All that said, it would be nice to get someone with LSU ties. Maybe not an assistant and definitely not Smoke Laval, but at least someone who knows what it takes to win in this conference. I thought Gaspard had great potential, but I think the pressure of replacing Wells when Alabama never really wanted him is what doomed this from the start.

I think it would have been Bobby Pierce, had Wells stayed retired the first time. I would look at him again. He played at Alabama and he has been solid at UAH and Troy. He knows the state of Alabama. He's still only 55.

That's who I wanted in 2007. Would still be great to have him, but I've read he's retiring after this season.

He is but I would like to know the reasons. He's only 55 and has had consistent success at Troy. I don't know about his health.

Chances are slim for a regional at this point, but this could be a good starting point with five regular season games left.

3 are against Vandy right?

One more with Auburn after today. Midweek with Mercer and three at home versus Vanderbilt. I don't think they'll be rescheduling the MVSU series that was cancelled in March.
