Hurts must have been tearing it up. He looks head and shoulders above Barnett, Cornwell & Bateman.

Saban values seniority over all else, but of the other QBs continue to unimpress, he absolutely cannot RS Hurts. He's too much of a weapon. Hurts with Kiffin could dominate for the next 3-4 years.

Stop with this bullshite. He is playing vs the 2nd team defense. On the touchdown drive he threw a passed that Evans should've picked that was tipped and went for a long play. He may be good but he didn't do anything that makes you say he should be starting.

Saban is going to choose whoever is best for the team and, based on past events, I'm certain that whatever decision he makes will be the right one.

Tide or Die87, I'm sure he wasn't perfect, but he's an early enrollee that is showing more ability than the others. And our 2nd team D is about on par with other 1st teamers.

I just don't want us to get into a culture of sitting the most talented QBs simply because of experience.

I only go by what I see on the field from all parties thus far. BB8 needs to work on his ball placement & timing. Bateman still has hesitation issues. Cornwell has a nuclear arm but has placement & consistency issues. Hurts showed good ball placement & poise, he kept his eyes downfield and still saw his checkdowns. Yes, he was not perfect, but he looks more like the future than the rest at this point.

No he doesn't. He values players who he can trust to do their jobs without making costly mistakes. In many cases that favors seniority especially at the QB position but if JH proves that he can consistently perform the best without making costly mental errors then he'll start.

Lol every year.

Just accept that there's an 80% chance it's Bateman and 20% chance it's Cornwell.

Your post is what's bullshite. I'm not calling for the guy to start. shite will work itself out and Saban will have the best guys out there. But this notion that Hurts didn't look twice as composed and knowledgeable about the offense and able to run it the way Kiffin wants it is fricking insane. It doesn't matter what defense he played against. It's about how he fit into the offense. Hell he didn't even get to run. How is the idea that he looked the best bullshite?

In a pro-style offense the QB is responsible for doing about 10 things mentally before the ball is even snapped. Everything from formation alignment to reading the D. Screw up one thing and the play won't work. 99% of incoming freshman QBs are going to need a year or two to master the mental "game management" aspects well enough to start for Bama. The other 1% are basically football savants. Maybe Hurts is a football savant. If not, it won't really matter how good he is post-snap because we're not going to play someone who makes mental mistakes.

I thought he threw the ball well. He looks like a scared baby giraffe too often, though. You could tell his brain was WAY ahead of his body. Dude was straight freaking out.

It really is amazing. Almost as if somehow the memory of all spring games past get erased.

The ONLY thing we MIGHT have learned today is that Adam Griffith has lost his mojo again, but even that isn't guauanteed.

Doesn't Kiffin take care of the presnap shite? Haven't seen an Alabama QB having to work too hard pre snap under Kiffin.

Stop.

He looks like he will be a good one eventually. But if Tim Williams had been in his face all day it would have looked a lot different.

Right now, I'd say Bateman starts, but I think Barnett overtakes him in the fall.

He does when we're in hurry up mode but I think it's still on the QB the rest of the time. I remember both Blake and Coker struggling to get the ball snapped in time because they were taking a little too long going through their pre-snap reads

For the record, I wasn't saying that I think Hurts will win the job. I think it's extremely unlikely. Just saying that CNS wouldn't not start someone who otherwise earned the job based solely to the fact he is a freshman.

I think they took so long because they'd have so much "check with me" stuff. That and they had trouble getting calls in on the road.

Meh, we haven't had a true freshman ever look so good at QB under Saban.

I was impressed with the job Hurts did given the amount of time he's been under the system versus the other QB's. If he keeps improving I wouldn't be surprised if he gets the nod given he adds another dimension to the offense that Saban has always admitted he's wanted. Some of you will not want the young man as quarterback regardless until he's undeniably the best and you have nothing else to argue. If the competition is boarderline or even close to boarderline enough to to make an argument you'll pull for anybody but Hurts even though he has the most available years left to play. I'm not sure why?
