Not that I don't like the guy and the way he acts on the sideline (In my opinion, he looked very poised and professional) but I would rather see him up in the booth so he can get a better view of what is happening on the field.

It is so difficult to see everything happening from the sideline from eye level.

I think it is a huge disadvantage

He has one of his assistants in the booth letting him know what the D is doing from that perspective. Being on the sideline allows him to look at his first year starting QB in the eyes, talk to him, reassure him, etc... May just be for the first few games. We'll see

I kind of like him on the sidelines. I feel like being able to use all of his senses when analyzing the game is an advantage.

It's easier to coach from the sideline. There are guys in the box that are telling Kiffin what the defense is doing so he isn't needed up there.

Yes, our 5th year senior QB.............

But you're right, that's why he's there. I think he may move up to the booth someday, but not until we have an established, experienced QB.

I expect improvement in the next couple of weeks against Florida Atlantic and Southern Mississippi.

I don't know what to think of Florida yet since they haven't played. They sucked last year but so did West Virginia.

If we do beat Florida does Lane Kiffin sing Rocky Top all night long?

I prefer Kiffin being on the sideline. He can coach better when he's up close and personal with the players. Keep an assistant in the booth to tell Kiffin what the D is doing.

Saban doesn't. He stated that having Kiffin on the sideline for the West Virginia game really helped in some situations that would have possibly turned disastrous had he been up in the booth.

With today's technology, surely he can have a video feed sent to some sort of video screen (tablet/laptop) that is on the sidelines. He could review the prior series' defensive formations and watch replays if he wanted. Obviously, he can't do this in between plays, but maybe in between series or during time-outs.

Just a thought.

Speaking of use of technology, I would be very surprised if teams didn't have people across from the visitors sideline using high-powered binoculars with lip readers interpreting play calls by the Offensive coordinator. There is a line of sight to the QB so the "towel" guys aren't helping much if you have the right angle. it just takes a radio down to DC on the sideline to tip off plays.

Who was recruited to Alabama as an athlete, played a little RB in his redshirt freshman year, before moving to QB in 2012. That season, we didn't have him running our offense when he came in for mop up duty. He ran the read option on virtually every snap he took that year.

Last year was the first year we actually had him running the pro style offense when he came into the game.

I doubt there will be any change to that any time soon. I suspect that part of his deal is that he needs to be seen a LOT in order to get his career back on track (if you can call it off track at all.)

Fine by me though.. it hasn't bothered me at all yet, and we get his recruiting badassery in the mean time.

We have 1 loss already if LK is not on the sideline last Saturday. I'm glad he was there and hope he stays as ling as they win that way.

Ive become really embarrassed by some Bama fans this week. This is not going to be an easy year and you're worried about whether a coach is on the sidelines or in the booth?

Seems like he kind of has to be. According to what Saban said

After watching him on the sideline this last week, I was more than happy . . . and a little worried about the complexity of the offense and our QBs catching on.

You could see him directing Blake on which way to change the plays at the line, for Blake looked lost at times. Imagine how it would have been if he had been up in the booth?

I understand why the competition is still in play with the QBs now, Blake did well, but he had Kiffin there to help, plain and simple. I give the offensive success this past weekend to Lane. No doubt about it.
