"And apparently not everyone is happy with the way that Mark Gottfried is coaching. Thomas De Thaey left the program back in November and made it clear on Twitter that he doesn't think much of Gottfriend's in-game acumen.

A former player expressing his displeasure after leaving the school? Meh, not a headline. What is eye-opening, though, is current freshman T.J. Warren retweeting De Thaey's tweet."

It's a shame really, hes done great with recruiting and has more talent than anyone in the nation on that team.

But I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm enjoying it thoroughly.

Let's not turn into LSU fans hating on our former coach because he's having success elsewhere

We ran him off. We weren't jilted. He was a scumbag.

I usually wish the best for people--I'm a defender of Shula, for example.

But guys like Fran? I still get satisfaction out of his misfortune.

That's what I don't get. Fran left us; we fired Gottfried.

I won't claim complete consistency here.

Saban jilted LSU. Fran Jilted us. But Fran was on another level--having the team "hold the rope" and a punter play on a torn ACL all year--then he bolts.

We canned Shula but we didn't hate him. He was in an impossible situation with the scholarship limits. I believe he would have done better with more numbers--not Saban better, but better. Plus he's one of us.

Which brings us to Gottfried. He had no excuses, was porking around and anyone you talked to said hew as about intolerable to be around.

Success? This thread has nothing to do with his success. It's actually the opposite. He's driving the preseason #6 team into a ditch. Sure his team beat Duke, but this team was also the preseason ACC favorite. They were supposed to. So far it's just about the only expectation this team has met this year.

BTW guys, so far they are 1-3 on the road with their only away win being a 5-point win against Boston College who is 1-4 in the ACC. Sound familiar?

You're right, he's been a total failure at NC State.

Didn't we also tell him to make staff changes and he said no?

I sense some sarc-asm...teeheehee...

Gottfried's recruiting has always been his saving grace. But as far as his coaching goes, yes, I'd say it has been a total failure. And I even know a couple NC State fans that agree with me on that point. But that is just my opinion. I'm just not sure why you brought up success when this has nothing to do with it. Now as for cheering for an ex-coach to fail being wrong, you might just be right. But all I know is it feels so right.

Who does? Even in Gottfried's "good" years at Bama, did we actually run plays and sets half the time? It certainly seemed like we didn't.

NC State IS a place you can win at. It's just that Mark Gottfried can't win, consistently, anywhere. Good recruiter, horrible coach.

I've degrees from both NC State (undergrad) and Bama (law), and I was about sick to my stomach when I saw that the Wolfpack had hired Gottfried after watching him systematically dismantle Bama's program through his laziness and ineptitude.

He will be fired in 3 or 4 years. They will soon discover that his teams rarely, if ever, win on the road, and if he misses on a couple of classes because he gets lazy they will become a complete dumpster fire like we did. As long as he doesn't get lazy they will win ~20 games a year minimum on talent alone though.
