Murph built the program from ground zero to the power that it is today and he's done an admirable job of it, but a trip to the WCWS seems to be our ceiling. Don't get me wrong, there's 100 teams that would kill for that level but he can't seem to get over the hump. Granted, he's won one title, but we've been 10 times. Not a good percentage in the big games. And please don't misunderstand me, I'm not advocating firing him, just wondering out loud what he/we need to do to get better on the big stage. I saw it suggested elsewhere he needs to self-scout and maybe make some staff changes. I don't know, all I know is he seems to be Bama's version of Bobby Cox; he'll get you to the big game, just don't expect to win it. Thoughts?

It's hitting. In big games, we swing at everything and usually come up empty. It's been that way for years.

2012 was special, but every other year we've found ways to choke in OKC. It's usually against Florida. They have always found a way to beat us in big games, whether it be in the SEC tournament or OKC.

How many Alabama pitchers have progressed and gotten better over their four years in Tuscaloosa? Dunne? Traina? It just seems like our pitchers take a step back instead of improving every year.

I'm not overly impressed with Osario or the pitch selection for her.

0-2 count? Rise ball, rise ball, rise ball...3-2 count.

Fastball down Peachtree that gets hurt.

Can we not have her throw her change piece when she's ahead in the count?

Osorio is fine. Our batters need to stop staring and start swinging at strike 3.

Don't forget about the loaded 2010 team that was put out by Hawaii and never made it to the CWS. That team should have won the title.

Dont remind me. I watched that debacle on ESPN and was sick. The absolutely worst matchup we could have had in the Supers. A Hawaii team that could knock the cover off the ball but couldn't do anything else. And we grooved one that they knocked out of the yard and knocked us out of OKC. That sucked. Again, questionable coaching there.

being in the wcws with a freshman pitcher that struggles at times, is basically a miracle. the bats seem to go silent as in timid, that ive seen. the ladies seem to look for a walk rather than swing at a pitch in the strike zone. there in lies another problem. the game against the sooners the strike zone was the size of a 55 gal drum, until the last 2 innings. where pitches that were strikes the entire game wasnt anymore. that has to mess with the pitchers psychie, sheesh. anyways, if osario would throw more first pitch strikes it would help her, i believe.

Murphy is a great coach, but he wasn't exactly starting from zero, even with a young program. Bama had won the SEC under Kalum Haack the year before Murph took over.

Lots of parity in the league these days. It wasnt long ago that sec teams couldnt compete with west coast teams on a championship level.

Murphy has done a fantastic job, IMO.

I will agree with this. Softball/the NCAA have to address the issue of inconsistency when it comes to their softball umpires. It's a joke. There's a difference between a bad call and a bad umpire. Every umpire I've seen in OKC has been terrible. No consistency whatsoever.

I do know that McCleney is as fun to watch as any player. If something happens, you can almost bet she's in the middle of it.

McCleney is a joy to watch. She makes the spectacular play look routine and she hustles her butt off every time out. I wish we had a team full of her. If more of our players played like HM, we'd still be playing today.

Yep, if Avery Johnson, over about 20 years, took our teams to the the Elite 8 on a regular basis, with multiple Final Four appearances and one National Championship he'd have a big arse statue out front of Coleman.

That's basically Tom Izzo. We'd be ecstatic over that

I get the frustration but its hard to be too upset about it. However the SEC is becoming really cutthroat. Can't rest on your laurels for too long if we are standing by and watching other SEC programs win titles.
