In a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), Cousins detailed the hit that is still imprinted in his memory from that contest.

"The hardest hit I've ever received was against the Alabama Crimson Tide at the 2011 Capital One (Bowl)," Cousins said. "Courtney Upshaw came off the left edge, also known as the blind side, and hit me so hard that I felt like I'd been in a car accident, and that was the only game in college that I'd left and did not return, so that is the biggest one I ever took."

I remember it as well.

That team had so much talent, but somehow managed to lose three games.

I am convinced that the 2011 season would not have been as good as it was if it weren't for that game.

I agree. That Mich St. game Bama was clicking on all cylinders.Defense was dominant.

And most of that team was coming back.So that momentum could have carried over.

That game started a heck of a run, Bama went on to win 37 of their next 39 games.

For those who haven't watched it recently, go back and watch that game. Might be the most entertaining game to rewatch under Saban. It's a damn family reunion out there. It's a who's who of legendary players in the Saban era. Every time you think you've seen all your favorite players make a huge play, another one comes in and owns.

Agree. South Carolina was ready for us but the team looked like they gave up at the end. They didn't have the drive for whatever reason that season.

Also, I still think it is funny we played Duke in Durham that year. How did that happen?

I remember going to Orlando worried like hell that we would lose. I know they got the shite beat out of them by Iowa, but I was nervous because Bama just suffered a heart breaker to AU at home and was wondering if the motivation would be there.

Favorite memory was attending the MSU pep rally and hearing their president say "we're gonna roll the Tide" and their fans go nuts. Ahhh sweet memories of Upshaw finishing strong that season. He had such a good game vs Auburn, then topped it off by murdering MSU.

That was Ingram's first game back. Didn't he have 100+ yards after his first 3 carries?

Upshaw was a monster. Just about killed all their QBs.

Not one Michigan St. player belonged on the field with Bama that day. The only reason they scored is because only walk on players played the last 5 minutes of the game.

Lacy as 3rd string RB just isn't fair

Saban was pissed when he scored that last TD.

Edit: I was at a bar in Milwaukee watching it, so many Mich St fans there and a very silent bar.

It was the Cap 1 bowl. I believe we backed out of the contract to play them during the reg season.

He is referring to the 2010 @ Duke game.

The 2010 Duke game was the second leg of a home and home we scheduled with them in 2005. The first leg was in 2006 when Duke came to Bryant-Denny. (We played like shite, were losing 14-10 at half, ended up winning 30-14.)

If I recall correctly, we tried to get the game moved to Charlotte or Atlanta prior to 2010 because of Duke's small stadium, but they insisted on having it on campus. (Understandably. I'm pretty sure that game alone caused a full sellout of their season ticket packages for that year.)
