Just how stacked is the 2014 Alabama Crimson Tide football team?

There are, at present, 83 people on the roster. Of that number:

13 are 5-stars
52 are 4-stars
18 are 3-stars

There isn't a single 2-star on the roster.

When people ask why we're so confident in the ability of our team to get back to the 'ship, just point them to the statistics above. The talent is most definitely there.

Yeah....but no proven QB and a very thin secondary.

I don't think thin is the right word, just unknown. We've seen DB's make huge strides under Saban. Just look at Marquis Johnson.

Guys like Sylve, Maurice Smith, and Cyrus Jones have a ton of ability. If they show some improvement, Jackson comes back at full strength, and the two freshmen step in and are able to contribute then this could be a strong point of the team.

I'm really not worried about our safety play. Collins is the best in the country and Jarrick Williams has been solid his entire career at bama. Throw in a guy like Geno Smith with experience at corner, I really think our secondary could be scary good. The talent is undeniable. If that's the case, this team will win it all. No doubt in my mind we'll field the best front 7 in the country.

And it's not like we were TERRIBLE in passing defense last year. We finished #11 nationally and #2 in the conference in that category. We have quite a few DBs coming back from last year with added experience. As talented as they are, I'm pretty sure there was some progression.

We've reached an unprecedented talent level. No team in the history of the NCAA has had as many top recruiting classes in a row.

We're gonna be scary fricking good, and I can't wait.

Yeah, we only allowed 180 yards passing per game, not great for us but almost any other ran in the country would be glad to have that. And that was with with a #1 guy who didn't get drafted and was hurt, and a bunch of 1st year guys at the position. What we did too much of last year was make mental errors on plays that were otherwise well defended. Everybody should have a much better knowledge of what they should be doing in year 2, especially with kirby back instead of brown (bad hire). Everybody we have, including Jones, had the potential to be a really good corner if they get the mental side sorted out

111.5 Passing yards per game in 2011.

I'm fairly certain the first team D gave up less than 100 a game.

I've said it before and will say it again, Saban won championships with Mauck and McElroy. He doesn't need Joe Montana. All Coker has to do is not throw picks

This. The same things win that always won. If we have a good running game, a QB that doesn't make mistakes, and a solid defense we should be good.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this defense by the end of the year will be shades of 2011.

I'm not worried in the least about our secondary. I also think this front 7 is within striking distance of 2011.

If you want to compare teams, I think this one is built like 2009, overall.

Inexperienced but senior status QB waiting for his chance to shine, an RB stable that is borderline ridiculous, a monstrous defensive front seven with a ball-hawking secondary, Jones as the most dangerous returner in the SEC, Amari as our Julio, and OJ as our wayyyyy better Colin Peek.

This team will win the SEC at 13-0. I think our closest games are at LSU, versus Auburn, and at Tennessee. I think everyone else is virtually road kill.

Those guys also had the benefit of being in his system a while before they started, unlike Coker.
