Sure, but McElroy just took Alabama to an undefeated season the year before..

What about McElroy over AJ McCarron in the Summer of 2010? You could argue he went with the older QB over the better QB that year because AJ was the more talented QB (really 2009 as well, AJ was already there). I think he made the right choice in those years, but time did prove McCarron was more talented than McElroy by a decent margin

McCarron wasn't very impressive in garbage time in 2010 (looked horrible against Auburn but that was a rough time to go out so I'll give him a pass) and he didn't exactly set the world on fire early in 2011 either. Hell, the QB controversy with Phillip Sims lasted into the Penn State game. I'd say McElroy was better in 2010.

1. He is a true freshman.
2. Others know the system better than he does.

Not arguing your points, just wanting to make the following comments regarding the quote:

Freshman or not, the best should play.
Knowing the system better does not matter if you can't execute on a consistant basis. Basically boils down to who makes the least mistakes.

Does not matter to me who the qb is...but...if Hurts has been more consistant (as reported) than the others, maybe he will probably start as a true freshman.

Like I mentioned above, not trying to provoke an argument...just adding my thoughts on top of yours.

I don't believe there was ever even a competition that season. G-Mac had just won the Natty. You didn't expect a change at QB did you?

No I didn't expect a change, but the coaches always say there is competition for every position every year. McElroy could have lost his job during that awful stretch he had in 2009 and AJ almost had his redshirt pulled so it's not that far fetched to think AJ was competing for the starting job in the summer/fall of 2010. Just saying you could argue Saban went with the veteran over the better qb in 2010

Well, I was right about the fact that Nick Saban doesn't just pick the veteran QB each season, and actually picks the most skilled guy.I was just wrong about which young QB he would pick. Either way thank God it's not Cooper Bateman
