He will make a big jump in the little things in his sophomore year. That's usually the largest jump for any QB. That second season.

Kind of the tale of his entire freshman season. He would often turn the ball over early and put the defense in bad field position to start the game. The LSU game started with an INT on 3rd down. Later that game though, he scampers in to give Alabama the lead. The IB was similar.
We got frustrated with him all season, but the guy has poise. For him to accomplish what he did as a TF is astounding IMO and watching him continue to grow will be something special.

The coaches did him a disservice by emphasizing eliminating the mistakes without allowing him to take chances. They scared him to death and it showed down the stretch. And we had the defense to deal with it this year.
I'm going to say something very unpopular here. I love CNS and what he has done but at times I wish he would STFU and let the coaches coach and the players play. I understand he had to keep Kiffin on a short leash. But I don't understand keeping your dynamic freshman QB on the same short leash. Jalen made mistakes and turnovers in almost every game. That's to be expected. He also made great, game changing plays in almost every game. They balance out. But if you notice, the great plays got fewer and fewer as the mistakes went down. When you clamped down on him with an iron fist, you cut down his mistakes, but you also made him afraid to try and make a play. I think that may also be a huge factor in the underwhelming play in our secondary at times; Saban's area he coaches the most. Saban needs to learn to lighten up just a little.

I agree with all of this.
After the NC I said CNS needs to just be a HC, thats it.
Belechik has all his assistants do the job, and he handles all the press and player acquisition stuff.
As long as CNS is the secondary coach, our secondary won't ever live up to the talent.
Edit. Someone got this kid scared into not make mistakes Just my opinion.

I think it was due to the fact the defenses learned that with decent contaiment and pressure Hurts couldn't beat them with the pass.

OL also struggled to keep pass pro on lock. Several busts.

Boz, you were spot on regarding AA preseason. Anyone like that this year (I know too early) you think can contribute to that level (any position)?

This is true. Not their best game either.

Be able to tell more when I go to some practices/scrimmages but two guys who were close to being really good were Jared Mayden and Carter. I can't wait to see the new batch of kids.

Been waiting on Cam to shine. How is Kief looking? Is he out of the fold?

hindsight is 20/20 but i had this thought a time or two the last couple games of the season.
