Former Alabama QB Jake Coker is officially retiring from football, he announced Thursday.

In a radio interview with WNSP 105.5 FM in Mobile, Ala., the former national championship-winning quarterback said he is done with the game. A knee injury ended his chances at an NFL roster spot last summer.

“I’m just going to move on,” Coker said, according to AL.com’s Creg Stephenson. “I had another surgery when I was with the (Arizona) Cardinals, and that was kind of the last thing. I didn’t want another surgery. I’m just kind of ready to move on. I’m excited about what’s ahead.”

The former Crimson Tide quarterback has taken a job with Cooper Marine and Timberlands in Creola, Ala. However, he said he isn’t disappointed about how his football career turned out. He said he achieved his “main goal” in football: winning a title at Alabama.

“That was my dream growing up, and I got to fulfill that,” he said. “I have no regrets with what I’ve done or what I’m doing now. I had a blast doing it and I couldn’t be more happy with the outcome.”

Coker was the starter for Alabama in 2015 when the Crimson Tide went 14-1 and beat Clemson 45-40 in the national championship game. He threw for 3,110 yards that season, with 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

God bless that young man. He was a warrior for us.

Dude lived the dream, won a championship and is a permanent captain at Alabama. Gave the NFL a shot, and then heads to a small town where he'll no doubt be the freaking king.

The Legend Of Jake Coker.

I hope I'm not the only one that wished we had another year of him. He was awesome when everything started clicking.

You're not. We beat Clemson again with Coker at QB.

He is a national championship winning quarterback. He'll have his pick of business opportunities in the State of Alabama. If Jay Barker can parlay that into a career, then so can Jake.

His spent most of his entire career sharing reps and fighting for the starting job. You could tell that once he got the job and didn't have to share reps, he could be a very good quarterback and his confidence grew each game. If he could've returned last year, we would've beaten Clemson. With another year under his belt, he would've had the confidence & experience to have a very special year.

His TD pass against Auburn is the most athletic play I've seen from a UA QB in my lifetime.

I'd be happy if he came back as an assistant.

He was money the last 4 games of 15. Almost threw for over 300 yards in both playoff games.

He would frustrate the hell out of me and then come back and do something, so ugly that it was beautiful

He is the Steve Sloan of the Nick Saban Era. Highly productive yet criminally underrated.

The dude stepped up his game when it mattered the most.

Cokers last 3 games are as good a stretch on as big a stage as any QB in Alabama history.

For a guy who had so many ups and downs that's a storybook ending. He'll be remembered at Alabama for a literal century.

No question.

Maybe so, maybe not.

Definitely wouldn't have been a guarantee.

But, Coker will always have a special place in Alabama lore. Loved watching him play. Great competitor.

Should have tried a position change to TE. There's at least one guy in the NFL at TE who played no college football at all.
