I feel bad for starting the thread now. It wasn't supposed be a Tua over Jalen thread. I don't know how anybody could hope to see Hurts lose the job right now. Doesn't make good sense imo. Tua will have his time but until then Jalen will just keep destroying defenses. Mods, just lock the thread before anybody else bites the bullet.

I don't at all think that Tua is better, and I don't at all think he should be the starter. But would I like to see Tua get a couple of meaningful series every game? Hell yes. To anyone other than the youngsters on this board who never saw Richard Todd and Steadman Shealy get quality time in every game as a backup...including Todd actually catching a pass for the go ahead touchdown against Notre Dame as a sophomore...this concept needs no explanation. Youngsters, however, seem incapable of grasping it.

Well, but it's not like it was "in the good ole days". Nevermind that the wishbone offense was best when you could keep rotating fresh players in and out. Then there was the fact that back then there wasn't the scholarship limitations there are now and nobody capitalized on that more than Coach Bryant at Alabama. Finally, though, blue chip players these days want to play, and with recent transfer rules, with more possibly to come, it makes it easier than ever for those players to go somewhere else to play. There is another thread about UGA. With Eason and Fromm already there, and Fields coming in, somebody is going to transfer, same as Barnett did last year and same as Tua will if he doesn't get a fair chance. Personally, I think he will get that fair chance.

Actually, with a running QB like Hurts, it's a helluva lot like the "good ole days" as far as having "fresh players" at the QB position.

All the more reason why it makes sense to let Tua play a series or two each game.

I have yet to see one intelligent argument against it.

I said last year that Hurts would be great running the wishbone, but the point is that Alabama isn't likely to rotate players in and out like when Bryant ran the wishbone. It's highly unlikely that the coaches will use Hurts and Tua like Todd and Shealy, or for that matter, even like UF used Tebow and whoever the other qb was for the Gators.

edit: We agree, though, that Tua should continue getting playing time, and I think he will. In my opinion he needs to get more playing time with the first offense. I'm pretty sure this will come.

Agree. Play Tua while the game is on the line because he may be needed late against Auburn, Georgia and Clemson if they keep our running game in check. I doubt Hurts could win a game with his arm.

My opinion is as long as Jalen doesn’t get hurt or implode he starts until he leaves, then Tua plays. Which, is exactly what he was expecting but I’m glad he is getting snaps though.
