Football team was playing one game a week, plus they weren't having to practice in Hoover. For the last few weeks, the baseball team has had to travel just to practice. They're drained.

Lots of excuses....I'm sure they can go a few blocks to a city park or a high school field to practice.

The new indoor batting cage that will be attached to Sewell-Thomas Stadium is actually already open.

did they go pro. Hard to talk a kid into staying when the Pro ranks is what they aspire to do. Do you suppose maybe he could hand cuff the kids to their beds and keep them. You make it sound so simple. Just talk to the kid and convince them to hang around another year. Wow. Really?

Some of you must really get shite on all day long. I played baseball at Bama and have coached plenty of high level players. Marginal guys like Moore and Turnbill can often use another year of playing college ball to improve their stock. College baseball is not a prison sentence. The majority of guys like Moore and Turnbill will never even get a cup of coffee in the Majors.

What's your assessment of the program and what do you believe needs to be done?

As much as I hate to say it, we need a new coaching staff. All of the coaches are first class guys but we just arent getting it done.

The lotto scholarship is simply tough to compete with. It will take a special coach who can think outside the box and develop develop develop.

With the level of commitment the AD has shown with facility improvements, I think we need to go after a proven winner and make him say "no". My first pick would be Dan McDonnell at Louisville. He knows the SEC with six years as an assistant at Ole Miss. He's been highly successful at Louisville. I know he's in the ACC now, but our new facilities, along with the SEC Network exposure and draw of the league could entice him. I think if the AD is serious, they can also significantly increase his 450K salary.

Turnbull had a mid-nineties fastball that can be developed just as well in the minors as in college (he had some control issues). The only benefit that he might have had in staying is that he wouldn't get treated like a bum by the big club as he rides around on broken down buses eating off of $25 a day and earning $4.25 per hour.

Sometimes jr year is when better money (signing bonuses) comes with teams trying to coerce guys to jump early.

Turnbull isn't alone. 99% of guys won't get a cup of coffee in the bigs. Many if them will be very very good players too.

He seems like a solid pick to me.

High risk but potentially high reward. But like I rated earlier, go after a couple of big names first. Then work down to some younger guys at smaller schools.

That sweep was the biggest series win since Gaspard has been at Alabama. It likely buys him another year.
