I'm very proud to be an Alabama fan today, but for a reason none of you like

Verne Lundquist is the guest picker for College GameDay in Tuscaloosa.
We've had many great, iconic announcers over the span of football history. Verne will never be remembered with those larger than life names.
But I've always enjoyed him. His voice is exactly what I'd want to hear call a football game. I don't care if he messes names up, I don't care about the chortles or the mistakes. Verne has been a voice that has lived with Alabama throughout this dynasty, and this is the final year we will hear him call an Alabama football game. Some of you are glad to hear it, actually it's probably most of you. That's fine. I understand. I don't agree, but I do understand.
To have him in Tuscaloosa as the guest picker as he continues his farewell tour, not knowing for sure if he'll be back in the booth in the Cathedral of College Football, I'm happy that Alabama is hosting this moment. I'm happy to hear Verne's voice today, even though I'd love to have been able to be in the stadium.
And when it comes down to the SEC Championship Game, if we're there, I'll be happy again. Because Verne's final SEC game will be an Alabama victory.
No one here cares, I'm guessing maybe a hand few could possibly agree. I'm not cheering for Verne's exit, but I am smiling as he goes, because his voice and this dynasty will always be something I remember as I enjoy my favorite pass time for years to come.

I have always been a big fan of Verne. Nothing makes my pumped up more than hearing him yell "touchdown Alabama."
Hate to see him retire, but no doubt he has had a phenomenal career. He should get to call the national championship.

Man his Alabama TD calls are great. I loved his call of Eddie's punt return against Tenn.
"Eddie Jackson..... Eddie. JACKSON... have I mentioned this is EDDIE JACKSON? Touchdown, Crimson Tide." So simple.
I guess I'll never get the hate. He messes up names a few times a game, who cares.

Most people don't hate Verne and Gary, it's just that the people who do are very vocal about it, and personally I think it's become fashionable.
I do hate the way Gary won't shut the frick up about something at times though.

It's really more that I hate CBS than Verne and Gary. The only thing about Verne that I don't like is he always has one player whose name he can't get right.

Verne is better than anyone ESPN has had over this same span. Only Brad Nessler and Ron Franklin are even in the same conversation, and thankfully Nessler will be the one to replace him.

Verne and Gary along with the CBS intro song are SEC football to me. Yes, they screw up all the time with names and whatnot, but they get the big moments right and can capture the excitement of the game as good as anyone.

I think it was extremely classy of ESPN given that ESPN/ABC is CBS's biggest rival in college football coverage.

I can deal with Verne. Gary knows football, but can get quite annoying. Especially so when he can't let things go like the Mack Wilson hit on the kickoff that he thought was targeting. It was not ruled to be targeting, but he just wouldn't let it go. He does this kind of thing a lot which makes me dislike him.

I don't mind Verne. I miss Keith Jackson, OK I know I'm old...

I like Verne and Gary.I watched Gary Danielson when he was the Detroit Lions QB.
I'm not sure why Verne has caught so much grief. He did nothing to deserve it.
He's been good for the Sport of College Football.

I love Verne's farewell tour motto, "What are they gonna do??? Fire Me?"
So awesome, LOL!!!

They both get on my nerves sometimes but for the most part I like them. CBS on the other hand can go frick themselves with their 1,000,000,000,000 commercials

I like Verne a lot, mad respect for his career. Gary however can go frick himself.

Verne is great. No idea why people hate on him. His fumbling of the occasional name is meaningless.
He adds genuine emotion and fun into the game in his calls.
Gary can be a bit of a weird stickler about things at times, can get hung up on some random thing and talk about it to death, but he's still an absolutely awesome X's and O's guy, likely one of the best X/O's commentators in sports.
