To get Dabo for as long as we want him, would you be for it? We never get him otherwise.

Saban doesn't do Hypotheticals

I would be for it.

So stupid. Let's see him make the playoffs without the best QB in the country first.

No, because I don't think Saban is going anywhere for a long time.

NO.. This is Saban's ship. I do have a pipe dream of Saban becoming the AD in 7 years and then Dabo join.. but only with Sabans approval.

Ridiculous...you would throw over the guy that has won five titles and has us competing at the highest levels year in and year out? for Dabo Swinney?

lets see how far he gets without Watson. Chizik fell apart without Cam and while I think Dabo is no Chizik, he has not sustained the long term success that Saban has....

If he can make it back to the playoffs without DeShaun, I don't know what more he would need to do to be Alabama's first call when Saban eventually retires.

As for right NOW? Like if Saban died in a horrble blimp accident.... Dabo would certainly be on the list, but hard to pry THIS close to his own national championship.

No. I'll take Saban over Dabo. We will see how Dabo responds to being the hunted. He should ask Jimbo Fisher if he wants to know how difficult that is.

I don't think Chizik/Cam is the best comparison here. Watson clearly helped Dabo elevate the program. However, Dabo had Clemson playing a pretty good level beforehand and just needed a superstar to help him get to that next level. No different than what Winston did for Jimbo or what Vince Young did for Mac Brown.

That said, Dabo is no Saban and I wouldn't trade Saban for Dabo. The only part of this that tempts me is the "for as long as we want him." Knowing how tough it is to land a proven coach, especially one who wants to follow Saban, then I can see how someone might find it appealing to consider....but I'll stick with Saban.

Look - no one is saying Dabo isn't a good coach. He got a win over Saban and good for him. However, lots of good coaches have won titles and got a win over Saban: Chizik, Miles, Spurrier. Fisher and Brown won titles but neither set the world on fire since their superstar QB left.

Saban is the only one who has consistently maintained a program at an elite level. Dabo had some good years but he is also in the ACC which, lets be honest, is a two team football conference. Without Watson, Dabo is good for a couple of losses per year in a lesser conference.

And nobody is saying he's Saban. If they are, then they are an idiot.

And give up Saban right now?

I think Dabo is a really, really good coach but Oh HELL FRICKING NO!

Saban is at the top of his game and probably has a minimum of 5 (and maybe closer to 10) great years left. You don't put the GOAT out to pasture when the milk is still sweet.

No. Dabo is a good coach with one NC with an elite QB. Not enough track record to give up the sure thing that is Saban even for just a few more years. We have a coach with 5 NCs with 4 different QBs (none of them elite). I'll stick with the guy who has proven he can sustain and win year to year. Even if that means only a few more years and then having to roll the dice with someone else.
