@TheCrimsonWhite: BREAKING: Elliot Spillers is the new SGA president. More info to come

This kid was the independent. He took down the machine, with help from a lot of the Greek kids. Pretty crazy

Good, Spillers seems like a guy that wanted to do things for everyone and not use the position as a status symbol like Keller.

Votes were 8000 to 6500

Glad to see the GDIs finally get their candidate a win.

This was the first election I've seen (I'm a senior) where it felt like the person opposing the machine actually had a chance. I saw so much more campaigning this year than in the past where it basically seemed like a gimme. I'm glad to see him win though. I am in a fraternity that is in the machine and I know myself and a ton of my friends voted for Spiller. Looks like the machine is losing its grip over the university which is overall a good thing.

For most of history GDIs have been too apathetic to show up and vote. If Keller was the machine candidate, it looks as though that bloc may have lost some of it's solidarity.

Congratulations, Elliot Spillers.

Would you say Spiller was a... darkhorse?

Good. That this is news means that we still have a long way to go.

@marctorrence: JK Scott endorsed the black, non-Greek who won the SGA presidency. Is there anything he **can't** do?

The legend continues to grow

Interesting. A black non Greek defeated the machine back in the seventies as well.

You can thank the sororities for that one

Prediction: Black fraternities invited into the machine

20 years later a Spanish guy wins it and they invite Spanish fraternities.

That would be a hell of a story

Don't remember. Also can't remember a single thing the SGA did in my 5 years of school. The Machine likes to think of themselves as hot shite but they are so unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Even the local political elections they influence don't really mean anything. It's almost exactly like the SGA. It's great to be in it and use it to your own personal improvement, but it doesn't really have too much of an impact on most people.

Block seating at football games is one thing SGA has really kept going. Maybe that will change. Eventually.
