How close was the 2008 Black Out Game to a UCLA/A&M disaster?

2008
Alabama vs Georgia, the Tide roars to a 31-0 halftime score, punishing every single UGA mistake with John Parker Wilson playing catch and throw with Julio Jones as the RB corps hummed all game long.
In the second half, the Tide offense put up a few points, but Georgia came back with fury as Freshman A.J. Green finally found his footing and began putting on a clinic with Matthew Stafford.
If it wasn't for the Tide's 10 points in the second half, Georgia would have nearly tied the game in one half. Assuming they would have massive momentum, another score would have meant a loss and would have been a national embarrassment to the Tide and new coach Nick Saban, possibly damaging any momentum attained after dismantling Clemson a few weeks previous.

I think everyone that was paying attenton was expecting a strong resistance from UGA in that second half, considering who they had on offense. The fact that we withheld that punch-back was more impressive than going 31-0, in my humble opinion.

Not that close. UGA got a couple of garbage time scores when the game was already over. It felt like it was getting close after they ran a punt back, but then we answered with a TD and a FG and that was basically the game at 41-17. They got two TDs VERY late in the 4th.

They needed 2 or 3 more quick 3 and outs of turnovers and quick TDs. Sure it was possible, but we were never right on the edge.

That game was never in doubt

Anytime you have a big lead vs a team with elite talent, there is always the possibility of a second half surge. The team with the lead more times than not will let their guard down.
I remember Georgia cutting the lead in half to 34-17 late in the third and being a little worried. Then, Alabama scored the next drive and pretty much put them away. Georgia scored a couple of TDs in the 4th and there was an onsides kick in there, but it was so late in the game they really had no hope.

I got a little nervous after that punt return made the score 31-17. But once Leigh Tiffin made that field goal to put us up by 17 I knew the game was out of reach.

To me, the one that was nearly effed up worse than any was the Ole Miss game last year. Sure we came back from a huge deficit, but that games was over, until we gave up 2 TD's in about 12 seconds and Bo fumbled the damn ball after that that would have given them a shot to win it.

The 2009(2010) Natty would have been the biggest disaster of them all

I don't need to remind anyone that Bama had a similar choke in 2010

Yep. That game pissed me off way more than kick 6.

You are a fricking idiot if 2010 pissed you off more than 2013.
2013 cost us everything. An undefeated season. The SECW and SEC Championship. A shot at a 3 peat and probably cost AJ the Heisman.

With a good kicker, Bama wins the 13 Iron Bowl by 12 points.

I didn't say stakes were higher but giving up a 20 plus point lead and shitting the bed the second half is a lot worse than losing to a very good Auburn team who quite frankly I thought had outplayed Alabama to that point. 2010 Auburn had 2 players Cam Newton and Nick Fairly. There's no way Alabama should have lost that game in that fashion with the players on that team.

Amen to that. Who goes for it on 4th down from the opposing 15 yard line up 7 with just a few minutes to go,if you have a decent kicker?

Was never in doubt.
It got to be 31-17 after a special teams score but we added the next 10. It was 41-17 with 4 minutes to go.
UGA added two meaningless TD's in the last two series (TD, onsides kick, TD) to make it look close.
